VHS : Good Neighbor Sam
What a great "old" movie! Not the quality we're used to today, but the storyline was wonderfully funny. The seller sent this movie extremely FAST as they stated they would, and the condition of this movie was as described. (It was a used VHS version). I was very pleased with my purchase and shipping experience.

VHS : Bloodline
BLOODLINE, based on the novel by Sidney Sheldon, is a good movie if only to see the radiant Audrey Hepburn in one of her final acting roles. She plays Elizabeth Roffe, who inherits her father's pharmaceutical empire following his mysterious death. Facing opposition and downright hostility from the board members (who also happen to be Roffe relations), Elizabeth's own life soon becomes threatened.

A boring script and meandering plot are the main factors why BLOODLINE never really catches fire; despite a star-studded international cast which boasts James Mason, Ben Gazzara, Irene Papas, Romy Schneider and Claudia Mori. The sweeping, haunting musical score is provided by Ennio Morricone.

Audrey Hepburn bravely leads the charge with an intelligent and sympathetic portrait ... Read More

VHS : Good Neighbor Sam
GOOD NEIGHBOR Sam is a strangely neglected American sex comedy of the 1960s, with Jack Lemmon, an actor I otherwise can do without, but here he strikes me as an accomplished farceur with more bite to him than most male stars of his day. He has attitude; he might have appeared in ZOOLANDER with that edge. Here he was a fairly good part as a sculptor who works during the day way down the ladder at a San Francisco ad agency--it's a very MAD MEN office, but more authentic in some ways, and the scenes of the admen exchanging dispirited glances at their busty, uninterested secretarial staff has the MAD MEN motif down pat. I suppose casting Lemmon in this part must have been a calculated move on the parts of the producers to recall his work in Billy Wilder's famous film of THE APARTMENT, but kick me out ... Read More

And by funny I mean funny 'ha ha'. It had a funny beginning, but that was it. Very disappointed in buying this one, I thought that since Peter Sellers and Woody Allen was in it, it would be funny, but it wasn't. No funny lines, or any creative situations. Pretty bland movie. I'll have to stick to movies by Blake Edwards instead.

1975. Written and directed by Robert Enrico. Three French Academy awards (Best Film, Best Actor and Best Music) in 1976. With a sublime Romy Schneider and a touching Philippe Noiret. During the last days of WWII in France, a doctor avenges his wife and his daughter killed by the Germans. Noiret's castle is also a character of its own. Masterpiece.

This review refers to "La Passante du Sans-Souci"(aka "La Passante" and "The Passerby")from 1982 (VHS edition)

Fans of Romy Schneider, this is a must have. In her last film, before her tragic death, she performs in a dual role that proves she was not just a beautiful face. An extraordinary performance in this mysterious political drama, she left fans with a hauntingly beautiful film. One you may think about for quite some time after the view. Her co-stars, Michel Piccoli,Helmut Grien, and Gerard Klein also add their wonderful talents to the film, and of course an appearance from Maria Schell is always welcome in any film.

Schneider is Elsa Wiener and Lina Baumstein. The latter being the very lovely wife of a modern day international political leader for solidarity, Max Baumstein, who ... Read More

This movie is very well done, not long enough and it can show today's film industry what a good movie is about. It teaches about different virtues and difficulties that come with the decision of following Christ. Today's society is carachterized by the absence of God even though most people say they belive in God, we don't act like we do.
The main actor is pretty good and so are the rest. Is well directed and the photograpy is excellet.

Romy Schneider was not only a stunningly beautiful and charismatic woman, but also one of the deepest, most sensitive and touching actresses the world has ever known. She is great as ever in this movie, esp. the latter half. Unfortunately the DVD is very bad quality, taken from an old dusty print with badly dubbed English. But thank god for the dvd remote, way too much time is spent on long shots of the train, etc and old newsreel footage instead of on Romy and Jean Louis Trinignant.I guess they didnt have enough of a plot to sustain a whole film. Too bad the movie and the dvd arent good, but Romy is Romy, truly a one of a kind star. This dvd is strictly for Romy fans.

joseph losey directed richard burton in this bizarre apologia for one of the 20th centurys biggest losers: a man who manages to be held in contempt by both the left and the right. it would be acceptable if anything about the movie were not the height of amateurishness, but thats not the case. trotsky lived with my great grandparents family in new york in the years before the russian revolution; if he was as obnoxious a boarder as this is a film, i hope they overcharged him for the rent!

For those who still wonder whether this title is available or not in DVD format, the answer is YES but, not in NTSC (U.S. Format).

The only two versions available are in the UK from Amazon.co.uk from an obscure Label called Prism Leisure (An Odyssey Bestseller) and includes the movie in a very shortened format (about 120 min. in PAL, equivalent to about the original U.S. Theatrical Release which in NTSC would come to about 125 to 126min. in length - The British version was originally cut at 140min.), and the other in Germany from another obscure DVD producer called E-M-S.

While I have no idea how the German copy looks like, or sounds like, the British copy I own, despite the 20min. cut-down, is fairly decent, with a clear transfer and a 2.0 channel Monaural sound, which on modern DVD players could ... Read More
