VHS : Panther
This movie came and went during its run in theaters due to its nature. But I feel that it was an honest attempt to tell the story of the most controversial party in America: the Black Panthers.

The story is based on the Panthers and how they came to be. The party gets frustrated with the police brutality in America and decide to defend themselves with weaponry.

The acting is pretty good all around: Marcus Chong is great as Huey P Newton, Judge is Kadeem Hardison's best performance on screen point blank period. The same goes for Bokeem Woodbine's character in this movie. The only flaw is that they leave out a few key elements that lead to their downfall but other than that I have no real gripe with this film. I thought that Mario Van Peebles did the best he could with ... Read More

VHS : Wings
A film that hits just about every human emotion in the repertoire and
does so surprisingly well, although there is some overeagerness amongst the callow youth. The biggest surprise of all, however, is just how
enchanting Clara Bow is as the very sexy girl next door. While obviously men's tastes in women differ, it is still rather difficult to believe that Charles Rogers wasn't at least infatuated with his next door neighbor. Clara's personality is just as attractive as her looks. Watching
her is by far the most pleasant part of the film. If only women were around like her these days...

This movie went a bit too slow for me, but overall, it was a good film. Made me cry a couple times when soem horrific things happened to the horse. But it was genuinely a well written story and Begley, Jr. is always a solid actor. The man is one of the greats of his era, as his Oscar winning father was a great in his. Tab Hunter did a great job with a small part. But his greatest film is: Track of the Cat.

OK, release this on widescreen dvd NOW, PLEASE. I thought it would be so nice to see this little Tommy Lee Jones flick I so loved as a kid, let's go rent the dvd...No DVD. What a shame. For this is a well-made, quiet little father-daughter movie set on the Mississipp. Tommy Lee is fresh out of jail for a crime he may or may not have committed as a kid. He's quiet, he's depressed, he's withdrawn. He's beaten down. Martha Plimpton is his spunky little girl he never knew. She is being raised by her good-as-gold grandma because her trashy mom is a no good deadbeat living in Memphis. Martha is so in love with Tommy Lee. What little girl wouldn't be! Slowly but surely she brings him out of his shell and makes him want to live again. Wonderful scenes between Tommy Lee and Martha (who should have been as big as Lindsay ... Read More

I remember seeing this in the theatre when it came out, I seriously had no idea what I had just watched but I knew I liked it!
It wouldn't be until just this year that I finally tracked down a US DVD copy and was the high bidder, watching it again was a trip. The wild sets, the rich colours, and the intense audio track make this a movie not like many others.
It seems to be something you like or something you just don't, but I think it's a great movie... not many people I know have felt the same way though, and very few people I know have even heard of it.
Check it out.

VHS : Applegates
Simply put, the Applegates are your typical nuclear family who wants nothing more than to nuke the human race. Seems simple enough for a group of cockroaches from the bowels of the Amazon forest, but, alas, nothing is simple when Ed Begley Jr, Stockard Channing, and Dabney Coleman round out a cast that discovers being human is more difficult than imagined. "The Applegates" was clever, funny, intelligent, poignant, and surprisingly shocking. From the beginning, with a group of volunteers trying to teach natives over the rumble of urban sprawl in the Amazon, to the very fun ending that makes you want to clap your hands and jump in excess, "The Applegates" represented an old style of cinema that is deeply missed in modern theaters. With a calling card that screams part "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and part the camp classic "Amazon Women ... Read More
