One of my favorites of all time. I love this story and its a great one for animation. The special edition here is worth it as well.

VHS : Giant (2pc) (Ws Aniv)
"Giant" is a larger-than-life 1950s soap opera filled with all sorts of rivalries, oil derricks, class warfare, and cattle barons. Rock Hudson plays Jordan "Bick" Benedict who brings home an Easterner (Elizabeth Taylor) as his bride. Bick's sister, Luz, doesn't take none too kindly to new bride Leslie whereas ranch hand Jett Rink quite clearly does. Leslie herself is appalled that women are to be seen and not heard, and that no one seems the least perturbed that Mexican workers on the ranch live in squalid conditions.

This first half of "Giant" is very entertaining in the way that soap operas can be. The ranch, Reata, is expansive; the mansion they live in is a colossus. The performances are quite good, especially Mercedes McCambridge's tough, almost mannish sister, Luz. ... Read More

VHS : The Birds
The Birds was the most ridiculous horror movie I've watched (and that includes The Evil Dead and other junk). Not only because of the lousy special effects - let's relegate those to the lack of technology. But the characters' reactions to the bird attacks often are preposterous. Let's pick the final scene when Miss Daniels hears a wing flutter and goes in the room at the top of the house, and see how many things are wrong with it:

1. Why would she go there?!
2. Why, after peeking into the room and seeing it chock-full of birds, would she enter and...
3. ... close the door behind her?
4. Why then, when the birds start attacking, does she make all sorts of uncoordinated gestures instead of getting the hell out?
5. Finally, her acting in that scene ... Read More

VHS : Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy
This is a great movie staring Jaclyn Smith covering the period of time of Jackie's childhood through when Jackie met Jack Kennedy and married him up until Jack's death in Dallas. It offers a glimpse of what Jackie was like during this period and what being married to JFK was like. The period of time called Camelot was a magical time in US history and this film offers a unique and up beat perspective into this period.

For example there is a part in the film where Jackie went to Europe and Jack asked here to bring back some books. A whole crate of them. After they were married Jackie complained that the press asked here questions like if her panties were cotton or nylon. Jack said that when you give them something better to talk about they will and that's when she decided to renovate the White House. ... Read More

6.Catered Affair starring: Bette Davis, Ernest Borgnine, Debbie Reynolds, Barry Fitzgerald, Rod Taylor

VHS : Catered Affair
Dreary settings, dreary story, dreary moralistic ending. Bette Davis attempts a lower-class New York Irish accent, with little success, and there is absolutely no chemistry between her and Ernest Borgnine, doing a rehash of his Marty role with a bitter edge. Debbie Reynolds in a non-comic role is surprisingly good, but also unconvincing as the poor daughter of a cab driver. Barry Fitzgerald provides a much-needed spark of life, and, of course, is the only one with a convincing characterization. The story wraps up conveniently with the central characters having sudden, inexplicable changes of heart. Definitely a disappointment.

VHS : Time Machine (1960)
This is one of the best movies ever made. This isn't just a classic, this movie is one of the movies that paved the way for other sci fi movies. This is as much of a classic as Wizard of Oz or Gone with the Wind and in my opinion this is better than both of those movies put together.

VHS : Hotel
I'm moving and giving up my VHS plyer, having got most of my favorite flicks on discs. But I won't give it up if it means never seeing "Hotel" again. It sets such a mood; puts you right into the hotel and the era.
Almost everything about it is perfect, and what isn't, is campy.(like the decor of the hotel lobby) Rod Taylor is one of the sexiest men ever to hit the screen, i agree that while C. Spaak is gorgeous and classy, and a good actress; her spine is not straight, she looks kind of deformed about the shoulder area, and i guess no effort was made to hide it, but she's still lovely. I love the score, it has just the right haunting quality, and each character has his own theme. Larger-than-life, as always, Kevin McCarthy nearly steals the show, as the heavy. And that heartbreaking moment when Merle Oberon tries to pretend that ... Read More
