VHS : Canterville Ghost (1944)
I saw this black & white movie Canterville Ghost(1944) years ago. The cowardly ghost was funny. I was excited to find it on Amazon. The ghost tries to scare the guest instead they scare the cowardly ghost. Once again I enjoyed watching it but it wasn't as funny as I remembered. I also purchased the newer version in color of Canterville Ghost(1986)staring John Gielgud, Ted Wass, Andrea Marcovicci, and Alyssa Milano. This Canterville ghost wants the new owners out and is very mischief. We enjoyed both movies.

Saw this when I was very young, maybe 9 or 10, and it somehow moved me in a visceral way that I simply cannot convey in words. But I never found out what it was called. With the memory of the powerful ending vaguely imprinted on my mind I vowed that I would one day find out the name of this movie. I have been clutching at straws for years trying to figure it out. Only recently did I find out, I'm now 25!

I have used the the Warner Brothers comment system on their website to try push for a DVD release. It MUST happen. AMAZON, if you can hear me, please do ALL you can.

I too had this on VHS for many years and was thrilled when it became available on DVD. I've watched it countless times and never grow tired of it. Undoubtably it's the best mini-series ever made, and all the James Michener books are a good lesson in history. He, himself, was a true American treasure. This film has a cast of characters you will always remember.

VHS : Heroes for Sale
After the dawn of sound, Warner Bros. wandered through the early-talkie wilderness trying their hand at Technicolor musicals and revues that largely did not work out. Around 1930 they changed their output to be what we think of when we think about the Warner Bros. of the 1930's - gritty Depression era films that pulled no punches in depicting the hardships of those days. Here Richard Barthelemess is Tom Holmes. Tom's life is a metaphor for just about every social injustice from 1917 through 1933 you can pack into a 70-plus minute film. Through his life we visit the post-war hardships of WWI doughboys including morphine addiction, the double-edged sword of automation, the Red scares and hysteria of the 1920's, and finally the armies of unemployed Depression-era men treated as lepers as they wandered ... Great performance by Cagney. As everyone else has mentioned - with so many BAD war movies out - where's the DVD of this?

I like Flynn, Garson, and even Galsworthy as much as anyone, but what were they thinking when they cast and wrote this movie? First of all we are to believe that Greer Garson is going to leave Errol Flynn for Robert Young? Who would prefer Marcus Welby to Captain Blood? Of course, we all know she is going to end up with Walter Pidgeon, anyway, but what woman in her right mind would choose Robert Young over Errol Flynn?

I suppose that Robert Young might have the edge because Flynn, transplanted from his native soil of Warner Borthers to MGM, seems to think that acting constipated constitutes great acting. Flynn tries to pretend to be as materialistic as Soames, but you know in his heart of hearts he is longing to chase starlets at the Brown Derby or Maid Marian in Sherwood Forest

VHS : Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
As the title so prominently mentions, INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE was originally intended to be the last of the Indiana Jones film series. The movie is an origins story and fills in many of the questions that fans had about the character, e.g. where did Indy get his scar, where did he get his whip, why is he afraid of snakes, etc.

The extended opening of the film begins in Utah where Indy (played by River Phoenix here) and his Boy Scout troop are out for a day of riding and exploring. Indy and a fellow Scout separate from the group and stumble upon a group of men who have just discovered the Cross of Coronado. Indy believes the object belongs in a museum, while the men just want the fortune the find will bring. Indy steals the cross and the diggers chase after him. It's a race through the rough terrain ... This film is still not on dvd, and it should be. This movie is really a guilty preasure, in that, it is all the things a movie should not be. Historically inacurrate, and all Hollywood from the get go. But, that was the way it was until audiances became too sufficiated for bad directing. Despite all that, I love this movie, because of those reasons. The truth would only paint Tracys character much differently, and we might end up hating the hero more then the indians. There are many lines in this film that are memorable. My favorite is when Tracy says "If she gives you any trouble, stick her in the rump with a bannoet." My second favorite line was so laughable I still laugh as I'm about to write it. After the indian maccacre is over Tracy is trying on the local foot wear and in an angry fit says, "Dont any of these indians have man ... Read More
