What a wonderful piece of work. I love to watch and rewatch this movie. It really has a powerful message about having people in our lives who may not be able to function like everyone else, but that is exactly why they are so loveable. You can learn a lot from them if you listen and watch. Mr. Erman really got the point across. The cast was incredible.

Monster Squad and other comical, horror films are out on DVD. It took 20 years for Monster Squad. How about digitally remaster in DVD for this little Gem. Almost slapstick comedy, but so much fun to watch, but not on schratchy VHS. Please bring this one out of the vaults.

"In The Gloaming" is an excellent HBO production based on the story by Alice Elliott Dark. First time director Christopher Reeve tackled this challenging story about a young man with AIDS who comes back to the home of his wealthy parents to die. This drama only takes 62 minutes, but it packs an emotional wallop as the main characters have to come to terms with both their past relationships and the people they have become.

Robert Sean Leonard (who you may recognize from "House") plays the young terminally ill man, and steals the show. He brings almost painful poignancy to the role without appearing to be a caricature of suffering. Most of his time is spent with his mother, Glenn Close, who does a good job as the caring, though formerly distant, mother. The scenes these two share are astoundingly ... Read More

LOVED IT: OHH FOR THE FADING DAYS OF DISCO. BYE BYE CLUB 21. NEW YORK IN GENERAL HAS NOT REALLY CHANGED. THEY JUST DRESS DIFFERENTLY NOW, AND GO TO DIFFERENT CLUB'S AND YOU HEAR DIFFERENT MUSIC. THE DOULBE STANDARD FOR MEN AND WOMEN HAVING SEX IS STILL IN PLACE. NOT MUCH IS CHANGED. I THOUGHT THAT ALOT OF WHAT I SAW ON THE DVD WAS EXACTLY THE WAY IT HAPPENED WHEN I GREW UP. IT WAS A TRIP DOWN MENOROY LANE. JM

This movie is, by far, one of my favorite movies of all time. It was so well written, directed and has some of the best actors (i.e. Robert Sean Leonard-Dr. Wilson himself!). Moving score as well. I hate to say this but it was because of this movie that I became interested in poetry. And I saw this at the movies when it came out in 1989. I was 20. I hadn't known what I was missing not reading poetry. Better late than never! Watch this movie, open your mind and you'll be pleasantly surprised! Peace.

Tried to care about this elegant, opulent saga, but this movie just comes off as rather pointless. Michelle Pfeiffer turns in a radiant performance trying to get out from under these overstuffed rooms and overwrought sensibilities, but can't quite manage it.

Her main problem, in my opinion, Daniel Day-Lewis here plainly just doesn't cut it as a leading man. His emasculated, simpering deadpan, dispensing dialogue medicinally as so much cough syrup, completely fails to engage as a romantic figure. Trying to imagine Michelle's ravishing, vivacious character head over heels for him is more than a stretch. I've seen gunfighters with more chemistry than these two. Their first intimate scene, eek! Comes off like an accident on a crowded bus. This mis-casting is quite annoying, as this movie appears in many ways to have had ... Read More

It is just a wonderful movie that did not get any play in the theatre or anywhere else. I rented it for the first time because of the cast and loved it, that is why I have added it to my collection. If we all live long enough we will go through the same thing, it's also a different period of time, but I could relate since I was on the fringe of that generation and as I look at things now maybe it was not all that bad. We have lost such an icon in Paul Newman, but I am glad that his wife is still with us. That is another thing that makes this movie so wonderfu is that Joann Woodward stars in it as his wife. They are always great and wonderful together. I'm so glad to have been able to follow Mr. Newman's career, as I'm 70y/o and saw it from the beginning. It seems that we are so caught up in special effects that we have forgotten what it's like ...
