VHS : Jesus of Nazareth (3pc)
This video is not as biblically accurate as I was led to believe by the other reviews. I purchased this to augment my bible study teaching so I may be a little tougher on the movie then most people. Dramatic license is taken in several places because of the need to let the viewer know some of the backround as well as the portraying of the actual incidents in Jesus' life. The movie is already 6 hours long so I can understand the necessity of this but some of decisions by the producer are almost ridiculous. Young Jesus is portrayed by a young man with blue eyes, blond hair, and the whitest skin I've ever seen on someone from the middle east. All in all though, the movie has some cool parts and is worth watching. I would recommend it.

VHS : Gold Diggers of 1933
It's easy to overlook the genius of the composer of all this wonderful music, Harry Warren. We are so hypnotized by all the wonderful choreography of the genius of Busby Berkeley, that we forget that if it weren't for the music in this film, there would be nothing to choreograph! Harry Warren went on from "42nd Street" to "Footlight Parade" and other films in the early 1930s to compose the music for an impressive array of films into the 1960s. His list of hits are staggering--42 top ten hits (21 made it to #1, and 14 reached the #2 spot), the most hits for any composer of his generation--and he was writing music at the time when the likes of Cole Porter, Richard Rogers, Irving Berlin, and Jerome Kern (among many, many others) were at their creative heights! "Golddiggers of 1933" is a wonderful ... Read More

VHS : Mr. Peabody and the Mermaid
I watched this as a kid and still have fond memories of it.
I would love to have it on DVD.
I am a huge mermaid fan and I think this movie inspired it.
There is debate whether or not he imagined her or not.
I think in this movie she was real and he did experience all those things that happened.
The end where he gave his wife a hairpiece that belonged to the mermaid.
That tore me apart.
He was in love with the mermaid and yet felt the need to be " in love" with his wife.
He had to make a choice whether or not to stay with someone he fell in love with , someone that made him feel young, wanted, and loved.
Or to honor his marriage vows.
And build on his marriage again.
No other mermaid movie has ever captured the emotion or magic for me.

VHS : Date With Judy
This is a great musical film with the superb singing of Jane Powell, plus Carmen Miranda, Cugat, and the beautiful youthful Elizabeth Taylor.
The plot is funny and the story really enjoyable for all the family. This is what the great musicals were all about.

VHS : Small Town Girl (1953)
When will MGM get their finger out and release "RICH YOUNG & PRETTY" and "SMALL TOWN GIRL" on DVD, after all this is the 21st century, we now have a better viewing medium than VHS tapes.

These would have to be two of the least known but best loved movies that came out of the '50's.

For those that havent yet seen these movies, beg borrow or steal them to see great dancing, fantastic singing, and so so acting, but are must have in any collection.

7.Lady Be Good starring: Eleanor Powell, Ann Sothern, Robert Young, Lionel Barrymore, John Carroll

VHS : Lady Be Good
I'm a big Ann Sothern fan, but she is awfully bland in "Lady Be Good." She's stuck with a sub-par screenplay and very little to work with. For real laughs, watch her in any of her Maisie movies (sadly not available on DVD). Why Arthur Freed produced this dreck is anybody's guess. Robert Young -- who co-starred with Sothern in "Maisie" -- looks uncomfortable throughout. Not all MGM musicals are classics, alas.

VHS : Mister Roberts
This movie is always on the top of my list. If you are a fan of the military classics, this is a must-have for your collection. Henry Fonda played this role in the play before the movie was made, so, his portrayal of Mr. Roberts is flawless.

The story is both heart-wrenching & hilarious at the same time. I, personally, cannot get enough of the crew posted on "The Bucket".

Obviously this is an excellent epic! The DVD quality was average, the first DVD was not quite crisp in reception as you would expect in an average DVD. Perhaps this may have been due to VHS to DVD conversion. I was expecting a digitally remastered copy which this wasn't. Overall the DVD set was excellent value!

VHS : Buffalo Soldiers (1997)
Great movie and was so when TNT did it for TV. Danny Glover was very good in this part and since I was, and am now a life memeber of the 1st Cavalry Division, I know a lot about the 9th and 10th Cav units who were the Buffalo Soldiers. I mysef served with the Delta Co. 2nd Bat 8th Cav Rgt Abn 1st Air Cavalry Div. Vietnam 68/69, so I love everything Cav, including all the John Wayne Cav movies. We have a steep tradition in the Cav, that goes very deep! God Bless the CAV!!! Nick Donvito.
