VHS : Scrooged

Frank Cross (Bill Murray) is a sour-pickle of a TV Executive who is very selfish, ego-driven and sarcastic treating some of his employees like yesterday's garbage. He had a bad childhood, a girl he hasn't seen in years named Claire (Karen Allen) and of course is now preparing to make a live-action TV movie of "A Christmas Carol" by Charles Dickens. However the ghost of a former boss (John Forsythe) warns him that he will suffer a terrible fate when he dies but can escape it if he listens to three ghosts whom can change his ways.

Exciting, vibrant and modern re-telling of the timeless story is set in 1980's New York and is a satire. The film co-stars Alfre Woodard, Bobcat Goldthwait, Carol Kane, Robert Mitchum, John Glover, Michael J. Pollard, with appearences by Lee Majors, ... Read More

"They laughed at him, Mississippi. That'll make the difference." -- Wayne to Caan regarding Mitchum

Director Howard Hawks once again hooked up with John Wayne to revisit the moral codes and deep loyalty of good men to others who live by this code. As in nearly all films made by this great director, the theme of women being the downfall of good men who still cannot live without them remains prominent. This remake of Rio Bravo is fabulously entertaining and as such stands as one of the truly great films in the genre.

Wayne may indeed be marvelous here in one of his best performances, but he has stiff competition from Robert Mitchum and a very young James Caan. The mere fact that Hawks could assemble such a cast is in itself astounding. To have Robert Mitchum and John Wayne together is tantamount ... Read More

Robert Mitchum, Sylvia Miles, Charlotte Rampling, Harry Dean Stanton, Jack O'Halloran, John Ireland and Sylvester Stallone, among others - what a lineup. Of the entire genre of film noir, tough guy detective films, this one is by far the best. Mitchum is at his all time best, even though he's nearly sixty in this film (a bit old to play Marlowe, in my opinion, but he carries it off with absolute aplomb). He is the quintessential tough guy gumshoe Marlowe (he floors Dick Powell's previous characterization of the role), Sylvia Miles and Charlotte Rampling turn in flawless performances, and in fact Sylvia Miles received a well-deserved Oscar nod for hers. John Ireland and Harry Dean Stanton also gave marquee performances as well. Even young Sylvester Stallone is a surprise. But another one that stands out for me personally ... Read More

Unbelievebly great movie. One of the best movie I have ever seen. Done with great actors. It is well done and leave aside the bloody scenes of the war which we do not need to see and appreciate not seeing. The movie has been very appreciated by the family because of the excellent performance of the actors and the very good script.
