Rollo Sweet an aspiring dreamer that wants to go to Hollywood and be famous expect a telegram from the film company. While everyone in the boarding house was listening to the President of The United States giving a speech and by the way this took place around the 1930's so you'll see old timy cars in it, so there was no television invented yet so they had to listen to the President on the radio. This is a wonderful movie and I don't understand why is has not been released on DVD years ago. It was one of Burt Reynolds best films, one that he should be proud to have released on DVD for all to see and let those that have not seen it find out just how great of a movie it really is.
This is one person that hopes it is released very soon, because it is one movie I will purchase ASAP...
Thanks
Someone who loves this movie........

"They laughed at him, Mississippi. That'll make the difference." -- Wayne to Caan regarding Mitchum

Director Howard Hawks once again hooked up with John Wayne to revisit the moral codes and deep loyalty of good men to others who live by this code. As in nearly all films made by this great director, the theme of women being the downfall of good men who still cannot live without them remains prominent. This remake of Rio Bravo is fabulously entertaining and as such stands as one of the truly great films in the genre.

Wayne may indeed be marvelous here in one of his best performances, but he has stiff competition from Robert Mitchum and a very young James Caan. The mere fact that Hawks could assemble such a cast is in itself astounding. To have Robert Mitchum and John ... Read More

"Perhaps not many of you have noticed that this movie is a "land-based" version of a previous film, starring Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner, called "On the Beach" (1959)."

No, it's not. It's based on the classic Roger Zelazney novel of the same name. It bears little to no resemblance to the book, which is unfortunate, since the book itself would make a hell of a movie. Even so, the film is still one of my all time favorites. I had a chance many years ago to buy the land cruiser used in the film. It would have cost 12 grand, but I estimated it would cost upward of 30 grand to fix it up and make it street legal, so i didn't buy it. I'm still kicking myself all these years later for not buying it.

7.Santee starring: Glenn Ford, Michael Burns, Dana Wynter, Jay Silverheels, Harry Townes
directed by: Gary Nelson
October 10, 1997

VHS : Santee
Santee was Glenn Ford's last starring role in a major motion picture Western, and it is better to remember after watching it that he will always be known as one of the all-time great Western stars.

In Santee, Ford plays a hardbitten bounty hunter who kills the father of a young boy, who Santee takes home to raise as his own. You know that the boy, played by Michael Burns, wants to kill the man who killed his father, and you know that sooner or later, the boy will come to respect, and maybe even love Santee. You don't expect the boy to forgive so quickly. You also know that the boy will eventually have to help Santee round up some outlaws, but the usual excitement and enjoyment just doesn't payoff, even with an ending that is more poignant, and more interesting than a lot of older or modern ... Despite the description given, this DVD does NOT have a wdescreen version on it. Only the opening credits and a few following scenes are in widescreen. The film then changes to full screen. Interestingly the ending also seems to have been truncated/cut off, e.g., not even "The End" apppears at the conclusion!

For what it may be worth, this film, especially the desert scenes, reminds me of "Hidalgo" and might even have served as the inspiration for that film. It has an excellent 5-Star cast and story but the DVD is a bust.

VHS : The Last Hard Men
James Coburn plays a violent mixed race outlaw who escapes from Yuma prison as part of a chain gang along with a group of other equally thuggish types .He persuades them to join him by recounting tales of a hidden cache of gold that will make them all rich men ;his primary motive is to use tham to help him gain revenge on his nemesis ,a retired lawman (Charlton Heston)responsible for his incarceration..He lures Heston away from town by feinting to rob a gold shipment being conveyed by train and while the lawman is engaged on this wild goose chase rides into town at the head of his gang and abductes Heston's daughter (Barbara Hershey). There follows a sadistic ,violent denouement involving rape and a great deal of rather gloating violence
