From a cinematic standpoint; Danny De La Paz (Chuco) is all that makes this film work. Not only was he a great actor even as a kid, he may look more natural as a gang member than any actor who's ever played one.

The older brother had a true sense of Chicano pride and was an avid "low rider", but he just came off as sort of a Brandon Walsh type of character. He really seemed to be miscast. A character growing up in that environment should probably be a little rougher around the edges, even if he supposedly isn't a gang member and is trying to steer his younger brother away from the life. The dialog between him and Chuco just came off too much like an "afterschool special".

I'm going to try and watch this again and make sure I'm not just soured because I expected ... Read More

I watched this movie in school. Terrible acting. Boring Plot. Just an all around bad movie, one of the worst I've seen.

I got this movie in VHS, long before it was offered online and it was tough to find in the video store. When I first saw it I had no clue about Matt Dillon's history with Michael Yardner until one day I saw the original Gunsmoke episode. I confess, I got this movie because of Joe Lara who plays Mandac, whom I didn't know of when I first saw this movie on television. It wasn't until Mr. Lara played in Tarzan: The Epic Adventures that I began to collect his movies, this being one of them--and I might add, in my collection only this movie and another of his are worth watching. When I was a fan I learned that mixed with some other things, Mr. Lara has--ta daaa--Apache in him though from which side, he never revealed. Joe played Mandac well as the brooding, slightly surly, yet gentle sort. Dillon's daughter, ... Read More

The characters in this movie demonstrate drinking, smoking, taking drugs (prescription) and promiscuity. I do none of these things, and after watching this movie I would be in no hurry to start.

I enjoyed the acting. I loved how the actors - all of them - portrayed their individual characters. I loved listening to the way they spoke their lines and timed their facial expressions: Outstanding talent.

A similar movie could be made without the excessive drinking and without the other "bad habits" and it would be a better film for many people. These 'depravities' were not the reasons why the movie succeeded. In fact, many will have to "suffer indignities" in order to appreciate the underlying humor.

Watching the characters act in group settings, and then alone or in one ... Read More

It seems like every time I do a review these days that 5 minutes later somebody votes on it. I most surely would love the know the identity of this person.I always wanted to have "A Secret Admirer" although I hope it is female!!! If I knew I was so popular I would have run for Mayor!!!Anyway to my review of this movie. Chris Sarandon arrives in a small country town as a Man Of Mystery who soon attracts the attention of the local Sherrif whose job it is to "run those goldurn varmints outta town" just like they did in the Old Wild West. There is one very unbelieveable scene where Chris is at the local diner and Mariel Hemingway offers to sit with him but he rejects the offer. Gee. If Mariel offered to sit next to me I wouldn' say "No". Then there is the Obligatory Hollywood "Shoot Em Up' which is pretty exciting to watch. ... Read More

An ex-acquaintance of an automation company's owner decides to wreck revenge by unleashing a powerful AI-centric trojan horse (aka, a virus) that first kills people and then decides to eradicate the entire planet of humans.

Pros:

1. There is only one... it makes you think. Should we really become so dependant on computers throughout the world? While viruses becoming hell-bent on the destruction of mankind are very unlikely (that would require a program to develop feelings of anger, desire, and many others), viruses can make a mess of things when they do strike. Especially in this day and age where even cell phones require an anti-virus package.

Negatives (there were many, but these two stood out):
1) Highly implausible. This is a huge one. Okay, I am a computer programmer, database ... Read More

Remember this movie? Pretty damn cool, isn't it? Whether or not you believe the story being told, it still made for an entertaining movie. And admittedly, having the "Based On A True Story" line attached does tend to add a bit more creepiness to an often told Hollywood tale.
I remember this being marketed more as a science fiction film, but other than the premise and the sequence near the end of the film that shows Walton's experience aboard the ship, this is really more of a mystery/drama.
The film tells the tale of Travis Walton and his logger buddies who witness a UFO in the mountains one night in 1975 while driving back to town. Travis leaves the truck, is shot by a light from the ship and disappears. His buddies return to town to tell the story, but soon find themselves suspects in Walton's disappearance. But no matter ...
