This movie falls into the "so bad it's good" category. All the actors are terrible, even Henry Fonda's cameo stinks. Some of the scenery is great, some is obviously phony. But somehow it is watchable, perhaps because you keep imagining what is being parodied, especially toward the end. Yet it gives one a twinge of regret when it's over.

VHS : The Big Red One
No need to rehash plot points, but suffice it to say that The Big Red One - in all it's restored glory as Fuller intended - is a true masterpiece. One of the best WWII films ever made, with heartfelt performances and great action. Watching Mark Hammill empty a clip into the german soldier who took cover in the oven towards the end is one of the most chilling scenes in movie history - showing the reality of war and how brutal an affair it always is.

Disregard the idiotic complaints here...they are obviously written by kids with no appreciation for real film making. "Too long?" laughable. And for those who didn't find it believable, reality often is stranger than fiction - everything in the film is based on Fuller's own experiences.

First things first. I'm not the only one who ever saw Clapton, but I've seen a lot of concerts. I saw this show in New York. He played so long that we left (some had to work the next day) but his guitar playing wasn't good, great or fantastic. It was simply mesmerizing. He played for four hours (from what I could gather).

But for a DVD (or live cd) I suppose the artist has to fit some format (like keep each song under 15 minutes) for it to be packaged right for sale. Most live shows are "cut", I'm sure the artist knows they are filming for a recording and things have to be kept tight.

"24 Nights" is as close to a live Clapton show you will ever see. The DVD shows him playing. A lot of close up solo work--which , let's face it, is why you go to see Clapton! There ... Read More

As the story opens, lost-soul Roslyn (Marilyn Monroe) has just arrived in Reno to get a quickie divorce. She meets Guido (Eli Wallach), a sensitive mechanic and his pal Gay (Clark Gable), an aging cowboy. Both men fall in love with her and she ends up living with Gay in Guido's house. The men take Roslyn out the desert to go "mustangin'," but she's horrified when she learns the purpose of their trip.

This story is about four aimless and rather pathetic people who have nothing to do and no place to do it in. They're just drifting through life and for a short time, they drift together. Gable is outstanding as the rugged old cowpoke who still wants a woman's touch. He takes manly command of every scene and is charisma personified. Wallach's role is less flashy but still powerful and ... Read More

VHS : The Battle of the Sexes (1960)
Lesser known British Comedy film from the earlier days of comedic great Peter Sellers.
Here Peter Sellers re-teams with "The Lavender Hill Mob" director Charles Crichton to deliver another biting comedy and examination of culture clashes. Peter Sellers plays a meek accountant in a firm that produces Scottish Kilts. When the ole time owner kicks the bucket, his son inherits control. However, the son comes with his new partner, an American woman! Mrs. Barrows played by Constance Cummings. She has some very different ideas about how to run a business. The old stogie accounting department will never be the same. Sellers, the head of the accounting department has been given the task to acquaint her with the firm. She is rather taken aback by its many arcane ways of doing business and insists on immediate ... Read More
