VHS : Gaby - A True Story
This is the most touching and inspirational movie. The fact that is based on true facts makes it even more powerful.I can't wait to see it produced on DVD. I have being looking for it on DVD for a long time. I am a Psychologist, and MFT and this is a movie that I would recommend to all my patients to see. "I believe that it does not matter what life brings us, it is up to us to overcome adversity. We have the freedom in our will to choose not to be miserable by being in the presence of the absence, and to do the best of what we have."

This is a great movie. It's a fine Christmas movie, but it's just a great movie for any time. Where I come from, this story is called "Los Pastores." It's a lovely Hispano Christmas tradition--it goes with Posadas--where the whole town goes house to house with Mary & Joseph searching for a room at the inn--and in my part of the world folks have old handwritten scripts in endless archaic Spanish. It's funny, bawdy, and it used to be put on yearly in my town.

But no one is willing to memorize the enormous scripts any more. Kids don't want to rehearse three times a week for a month before Christmas. So lots of people have never seen Los Pastores, or even heard of it.

La Pastorela is Los Pastores with the best folks imaginable for every part. This is the story ... Read More

It's too bad this film is not on DVD, even so, you should find a VHS and buy it. It is wonderfully funny, not in a laugh out loud way, but very subtle.

Another fabulous film inspired by Sid the Elf. You must check them out if you haven't already!

I've been a Norris Fan for quite some time, yet I haven't seen all of his movies since he's got over 500 in his library. So I've been catching up on my Chia-Chuck lately, hitting the good & the bad. This movie is quite good!

First of all it has a midget in the movie. And it's not your usual dwarf/elf/stunt-double midget. This little bugger is, basically, cause for all the chaos in the film. Midgets need more positive roles like this one in Hollywood. I'm tired of elf movies.

David Carradine plays a bad guy in this movie, and does it well. I'm used to seeing him as Bill from the Tarantino flicks (and vaguely remember him in Kung Fu). So it was nice to get a younger ... Read More

Make no mistake this is a film that involves a political war and a small piece of history that most of us won't be aware of but while the story itself is made up the facts of what occurred is real.
Robert Beltran gives a great performance of a Latino green beret who comes to question his assignment and ultimately wakes up the viewer to ask themselves if what the government is doing at any given time the right thing. After all we are only told bits and pieces of these things and films such as this one help to clarify. To bad it's only available on vhs.

Hmmmm? What movie was it that had a Black man investigating the death of his white friend in a fish-out-of-water scenario? Aha! Replace Eddie Murphy with Louis Gossett, Jr. and replace Beverly Hills with Managua, Nicaragua. This film is just a serious version of "Beverly Hills Cop" and its comedy.

This movie had neither action nor suspense. The surprise events did nothing for me. This was more of a C-movie than a B-movie. This is the type of garbage that cable stations show outside of peak hours. Even seeing Gossett's buns did not improve this work.

Gossett is a veteran-turned-white collar worker sent on a mission that surely only a trained CIA staff member would be asked to do. Supposedly, Gossett's character and his best buddy fought in Vietnam together. However, his buddy looks 30 years ... Read More

Kiss Me A Killer is a surprisingly good Latino version, 1991, of The Postman Always Rings Twice, updated to Mexican-American life in L.A. Guy Boyd plays the often-drunk lout of a husband to Julie Carmen's sexy Latina wife, and Robert Beltran is the Latino drifter hunk; in this version, he's a talented musician (guitarist-singer) who revs up the Circle Club, the joint owned by the couple.

Their previous lead act, an aging Mexican singer, keels over one night from what looks like a heart attack, and Tony (Beltran) gets his chance to show his stuff. He does, and the money starts pouring in. His music has juice and it is, in fact, some great Latin music; in fact, in one scene, the famous conguero Pancho Sanchez holds forth on the congas and is a real treat to listen to.

But music is not the only drawing card ... Read More
