VHS : Hercules (A Walt Disney Masterpiece)
Disney released its 35th full-length film in early 1997 and much like all Disney films be prepared for musical numbers to tell the story.....but they are done by Alan Menken....so it isn't all that bad. The plot is set early in the film: Hades wishes to over-throw Mt. Olympus and imprison the legendary gods that live atop the mystical mountain. So Hades summons the sisters of fate to predict the outcome - their forecast is anything but reassuring. A child will be born on Olympus that will defeat Hades' plot - if Hercules fights Hades will lose. So Hades sends his to loyal henchmen, Pain and Panic, to steal the baby from Zeus and feed him an elixir that will remove the young Hercules' godhood and allow Hades to kill the newborn. Well, in typical style, Pain and Panic, botch the assignment and ... Read More

Who, apart from some psychologists and health care providers even know who Richard Maurice Bucke is????

Well, thank God that there are some film directors that eschew big time glitz to bring a work of pure art and labour of love to the screen. BEAUTIFUL DREAMERS is the based-on-fact story of Maurice Bucke, whose enduring friendship with famed poet Walt Whitman influenced him greatly in the field of progressive health care. Bucke believed that humane contact and a normalization of routines in mental asylums was absolutely necessary to the rehabilitation and care of the unfortunate.Bucke is often recognized as "the father of occupational therapy". Bucke was an avid reader of poetry and read Whitman's banned (in Canada) LEAVES OF GRASS which lead him to meeting the famed ... Read More

There were too many edited scenes that made this purchase a non value.
1. When driving to the beach, an edited car scene.
2. When arriving at the first beach house, an edited upstairs foyer scene.
3. When in the first beach house, the dog chewing on the sofa leg and the collapse of the sofa.
4. The fabulous boobs scene.
All these scenes were cut out, and when combined, they only add a minute or so longer to the movie.

if you have ever struggled with a strained relationship with a parent or a rivalry with a sibling, please watch this film. the father of the two boys, gene hackman, is at his best, looking slim and elegant as a wealthy workaholic businessman exported to oversee his company's travails in Tunsia. he is silently, secretively mourning the the death of his beloved wife. unable to properly grieve, he instead turns all his energies towards his work, and virtually abandons his role as the surviving parent, displaying little concern or compassion for his children, especially his oldest child (played by henry thomas, of E.T. fame.)

sadly, except for moments when he's upbraiding, threatening, or harshly criticizing him, promising to have him sent away to a military school, or comparing him ... Read More

I adored this film. But I must confess some personal bias here--first, because I've had a crush on Peter Coyote for most of my adult life (though his role here is definitely supporting, not major), and second, because my personal life parallels what Rawlings experienced--though I came to a mountain (with a creek) to do my writing. Rip Torn's performance as Marsh Turner is just stellar--one of the best things I've ever seen him do. And Alfre Woodard 'becomes' Gee Chee in a realistic but not over-the-top portrayal of her character. Really, really lovely film.

THIS MOVIE, DISAPPOINTED TENNESSEE WILLIAMS, BECAUSE OF THE CHANGES MADE BY THE CENSORS. THE FILM DOES CONVEY THE ACTUAL PERSONALITY OF THIS POSSIBLY GREATEST OF ALL AMERICAN PLAYWRIGHTS. A REAL INSIGHT INTO THE INNER PSYCHE OF MR. WILLIAMS, OFTEN REFERRED TO AS A "POET OF THE EMOTIONS".

THE CHARACTER OF ALEXANDRA DE LAGO MIRRORED THE PERSONALITY OF MR. WILLIAMS, IN THAT HE HAD EXPERIENCED A BRILLIANT CAREER, AND WAS GETTING OLDER, AND SUFFERING MORE HEALTH PROBLEMS. THE CHANCE WAYNE CHARACTER PLAYED BY PAUL NEWMAN, ILLUSTRATES THE TYPE OF MAN MR. WILLIAMS WAS MOST EMOTIONALLY ATTRACTED TO IN LIFE. GERALDINE PAGE GIVES AN INTERESTING PERFORMANCE, BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A MUCH BETTER FILM, IF INDEED TALLULAH BANKHEAD COUD HAVE PLAYED THIS PART, ESPECIALLY WRITTEN FOR HER BY MR. WILLIAMS, ... This wasn't a mainstram movie and really wasn't "pushed" by the studio to be a blockbuster but you will feel like you just watched one afterwards. The soundtrack is fantastic. The group is called "Stuff" with Paul Simon. They actually have an album out by the same name. It takes a look at the music business from the inside, which not everyone gets to view in real life. Take an evening aside and sit and enjoy the movie and the music called One Trick Pony.

This is a decent film that deserves to be re-issued on DVD. While not a big budget opus like infamous Mel Gibson's THE PATRIOT, this is a much higher quality film overall. While a bit slow in the beginning with family relationships in Lexington, the film picks up when the British at last appear on the screen! There is a nice shot of the British columm deploying impressively into line to face Captain Parker's company. The only problem here is that the British force at this point consisited of six companies of Light Infantry who jogged into town at a fast clip before forming line opposite the militia. This would have been less impressive to show, plus i guess the available re-enactors could not all be shown in Light Infantry garb. So we get the usual mix of line companies, Grenadiers and Lights all in group ... Read More

this is a good movie, well directed and played.
the most important thing for me was to see a young Brent Spiner who has a little role, but however he is the friend of the protagonist and he helps him to fly...
