VHS : The Compleat Beatles
This was my intro to the band as a young teen in the 80's. It's a wonderful film and documentary, that really gives a full story of the band from beginning to end. Really get a glimpse into the personalities and the music's creative process. Good clips of interviews, and music performances/videos. Great choice of songs throughout, not just the hits (such as Tomorrow Never Knows, Why don't we do it in the road, Love you too, Day in the Life), even though they are usually shortened snippets. Small complaint, but I just wish it had some of the Paperback Writer video because I love that song, but so many great ones are here.... blackbird, I am the Walrus, fool on the hill, I'm a loser, etc etc. Again they are usually partial songs, but they fit in alot throughout, and it does not seem slighted ... VHS : 200 Motels
Your level of enjoyment will probably depend on how much you appreciate Zappa and his particular brand of [...]. As a movie musical, it seems at times to be a parody of the genre while simultaneously stretching the form well beyond its normal parameters. There are a few genuinely hilarious laugh-out-loud moments, and I love the incidental orchestral music that accompanies and perfectly complements some of the scenes, but I was no fan of the Flo & Eddie era Mothers, so most of the band stuff does nothing for me. Well worth one viewing but I can't imagine wanting to see it again for a very long time: the last time I saw it was at a theatre when it was first released, 36 years ago, I believe; I could probably wait that long again.

VHS : The Beatles - Help!
I don't know why it took me so long to watch/purchase this movie. I am a Beatles freak and own every album and had seen Hard Day's Night, but until this reissue of Help! I just hadn't taken the time to check it out. But I have to say that I liked this movie MORE than Hard Day's Night. The gorgeous color and fun storyline were highly entertaining! This is my kind of movie. Quick little one liners, and funny little bits that if you blink you might miss them. Which also makes this film ideal for repeat viewing. The visuals are just outstanding, vibrant colors and great scenery! I highly recommend this film to even the most casual Beatle fan (if there is such a thing!!)

VHS : Candy (1968) (Ws)
The title character of this wacky, uneven comedy, Candy Christian, has a beguiling innocence and nubile figure that entices every man she meets. Her manner with them is inquisitive and soft.
The men are prominent and include Doctor Krankheit, a famous neuro-surgeon (James Coburn) and the Indian guru Grindle (Marlon Brando). They urgently want a piece of Candy, but their feelings for her are ambivalent because their desire is confounded by their professional etiquette or dignity, like a skin they wear as a matter of career survival, but which is incongruent with making love to such a free spirit. As a result, they are strict and controlling, as if to banish doubt. Coburn is good; Brando is a far cry from his Terry Malloy and Stanley Kowalski roles and is the funniest person in the movie.

VHS : Magic Christian
The Magic Christian is an inspired, wacky sixties film, based on the brilliant novel by Terry Southern. Appearing with Peter Sellers and Ringo Starr in the film are Pythons John Cleese and Graham Chapman, Goon Show alumnus Spike Milligan, Christopher Lee, Racquel Welch, Roman Polanski, and Yul Brenner as a lounge-singing transvestite. Paul McCartney wrote the film's theme song 'Come And Get It' performed by Badfinger. I have to admit, this movie makes me laugh. It's a great vehicle for Peter Sellers as the not-so-business-like Guy Grande, and Ringo as his newly adopted adult son. In the story, multi-millionaire Grande has determined that one can use money to teach lessons about the ugliness of greed, elitism, snobbiness, and authority. It is typical of british comedies of the late sixties inasmuch as it climaxes ... Read More

VHS : James Goes Buzz Buzz & Other Stories
"James goes Buzz Buzz" is a great story because BoCo is in it, and he is my favorite diesel engine. "One Good Turn", "Heroes" and "Wrong Road" are really good stories because they have Bill and Ben, two of my favorite characters. I like the way that they love to play tricks on other engines, but BoCo is there to stop them from being mischievous. "Percy, James and the Fruitful day" is the best story on this video because James is pulling cars full of fruit, then Percy has to pull the cars because James gets stuck on the rails, and Percy gets fruit all over his face when he is careless. I think this tape really funny.

VHS : Lisztomania
I had wanted to see "Lisztomania" since first reading about it in the brilliant "Golden Turkey Awards" in 1980. True to its reputation, Roger Daltrey plays Franz Liszt in a highly stylized (major understatement) manner as an oversexed rock star, singing his way from one predicament to another and making an arch enemy of Richard Wagner, who exists solely to subjugate the world to Nazi Germany, and who is a vampire on the side. I appreciated that Wagner's hat said "Nietzsche," which made his philosophy somewhat evident early on. Nice touch, Ken.

In the midst of this bedlam Pope Ringo (I'm not kidding: Ringo Starr is the Pope, complete with eye patch and cowboy boots) makes Liszt attempt to convert Wagner to Catholicism in exchange for his (the Pope's) permission for Liszt to marry. Confused? Don't be. Director ... Read More

VHS : Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends - Christmas Party & Other Favorite Stories
This was the first ever Holiday release and it features 2 Holiday episodes; Thomas' Christmas party and Thomas and the Missing Christmas tree. These stories are good but you can now find them on the other 2 Christmas videos which are Thomas' Christmas Wonderland and Thomas' Snowy Surprise. The rest of this video is filled with other Thomas episodes that were on previous volumes. I wouldn't recommend this Thomas video since you can find these stories on other Thomas videos now and the best holiday release was Snowy Surprise since it features all Christmas stories including 3 new ones.

VHS : Thomas the Tank Engine - Best of Percy (With Toy Train)
Celebrate the Best of Percy in this wonderful video containing 9 episodes starring your favorite little green engine, Percy. Pretty much all of the best Percy stories are included on here. The only funny episode that wasn't on here is Wolly Bear. That was my favorite Percy episode where Percy gets hay stuck to him and Thomas calls him a wolly bear. But the other episodes on here are good too and I guarantee that you will like this video and want to watch it over and over again. Even I liked it and I'm not a major fan of Percy. The stories on here include; Percy's Ghostly Trick, A Scarf For Percy, Percy Takes A Plunge, Percy's Predicament, Thomas Percy and the Mail Train, Percy Runs Away, Percy & the Signal, Percy Proves A Point, and Percy's Promise.
