VHS : The D.I.
I watched the DI as a kid, enjoying it, never dreaming one day I would wind up as one. Several years after leaving Parris Island with a (luckily) successful tour on the Drill Field under my belt, the movie came on one day and of course I had to watch it.
I was taken back this time when I saw the platoon number; 194.
Platoon 194 had been my last platoon in Dec 1973. It was the best platoon I had the honor of being a part of. Those were Marines if there every was and my hat still goes off to each of them. I do not believe I could have every of had a better ending to a tour of duty then having Platoon 194 as my last platoon. I believe my recruits would still tell you the movie recruits had it easy...

VHS : Wings
A film that hits just about every human emotion in the repertoire and
does so surprisingly well, although there is some overeagerness amongst the callow youth. The biggest surprise of all, however, is just how
enchanting Clara Bow is as the very sexy girl next door. While obviously men's tastes in women differ, it is still rather difficult to believe that Charles Rogers wasn't at least infatuated with his next door neighbor. Clara's personality is just as attractive as her looks. Watching
her is by far the most pleasant part of the film. If only women were around like her these days...

VHS : Christmas Box
This wonderful family values oriented film really isn't a Christmas story (but yes, inbedded in the plotline is, of course, the "Christmas Box"). Without once again retelling the story (other reviewers have done that nicely), I'll just add my take . . .

This is a story about loneliness, workaholism, generosity, grief, love and family (both by birth and by association). A made for TV film, but is very, very well produced and executed. Rich sets and scripting. Great photography. Great direction.

The casting is right on. In my opinion, Richard Thomas can only play one character -- but that works in this film where he is the sensitive but ambitious and busy Richard Evans (Husband & Dad). Annette O'Toole (Evans' kinder and gentler side)and Kelsy Mulrooney function as Mom and ... Read More

VHS : Spymaker: The Secret Life of Ian Fleming / TV Movie
Never had it crossed my mind that Ian Fleming himself was once an agent himself. After viewing this neat TV movie it doesn't surprise me how Fleming was inspired to create his literary hero, soon to become cinematic emblem.

The movie begins with the origin of young Ian Fleming, he was a son of rich parents, he never needed anything, and everything was at his disposal. As we see him transcend to young adulthood we see a very similar persona to that of 007. We see him as a womanizer and a man of wit and class. shortly in the film he is expelled from various private schools due to misadventures with women. His mother decides to put him in a military academy so he can learn a lesson...he ends up doing the same thing; finally his mother decides to put him in a news bureau known as Reuters. While working ... Read More

It's really sad that more people don't know about this film. It's a classic for all ages and the effects are AMAZING. Mike Jittlov is and was a genius. If you're interested in stop motion animation and you don't own this movie, you're missing out!
