VHS : Sometimes a Great Notion
i paid $26 plus S&H for a VHS tape that does not play well, the video fades in and out, goes completely white at times, and is of poor quality. In it's present form it is not even worth trying to watch it again. I was greatly disappointed in watching it...

Great performance by Cagney. As everyone else has mentioned - with so many BAD war movies out - where's the DVD of this?

I'm really surprised this isn't on DVD and more accessible to the public. Gregory Peck is first rate in his role as Ringo, the aging gun-fighter who's taking a hard look at life and wanting to change his ways. And Millard Mitchell was impressive in his supporting role. I loved the foreshadowing all through the picture and I was left stunned by the ending. Wasn't expecting that from a 1950's movie. I'm not a great fan of the western genre (although I'm learning to appreciate it) but this movie is beyond genre; it's a good, solid story with a great leading man.

VHS : Herbie: Goes Bananas
This is what happens when you make one too many sequels of a popular family movie. Eventually, there's the temptation to dumb it down.

The nephew of Herbie's original owner goes to Mexico to pick up the little car with a friend, hoping to take it down to Brazil to enter a race. Unfortunately, they run into a young pickpocket, Paco (Joaquin Garay III), and end up too broke to get to the race.

So on the cruise ship, they befriend a woman (Cloris Leachman) and her studious daughter, and the woman agrees to sponsor them.

Unfortunately, that's the closest Herbie gets to the racetrack in this movie.

Meanwhile, Paco's gotten into worse trouble, picking the wrong pocket, and Herbie befriends him, and most of the movie is hijinks with Herbie, now called "Ocho," and Paco.

Fans of "Valdez is Coming" should defintitely enjoy it. The two movies were made in the same timeline and Burt Lancaster did a fine performance in each. In this story once again he plays a similar role as a tracker. This time tracking an Apache leaving a path of destruction. I highly recommend this movie, but I highly recommend you don't pay the outrageous sellers that should not be allowed by Amazon to sell for $75 to $339. Eventually this will be made available on DVD again for a reasonable price. If you have a multi-region player you definitely can find it cheaper. If you enjoyed this catch "The Professionals" and "The Hallelujah Trail".

The is a great movie for a WWII buff. I saw it first in our local movie theater back in the 1950s and really enjoyed it. It is, of course, somethng of a propoganda piece but still a great movie to watch. I highly recommend it.

DVD quality was fine.

VHS : The King of the Kickboxers
This is one of those "so bad they are good" movies. Not quite as good as the classic "No Retreat No Surrender" (although the style of the movie is very similar), its still good enough to be enjoyed.

Loren Avedon I must say is very unique in all his martial arts films. I can never decide if I really enjoy his presence or despise it. His acting is rather lousy, but to the point its almost fun. He tries to be funny, and it sometimes ends up being so just for trying. As for fighitng, he actually is very athletic in his earlier films, and this is no exception. Loren Avedon plays a cop named Jake, who is assigned to Thailand to investigate the murders involved with film making. When he is put off the case, he insists on going when he learns the man who may be resposible for the deaths is the same guy who killed his ... Read More

VHS : Sands of Iwo Jima (Aniv)
''The Sands of Iwo Jima'' covers far more than the Marine invasion of Iwo Jima in World War II. The film follows the seemingly real Sergeant John Stryker (John Wayne) and the men he was commanded over a period of a year or so in the South Pacific. While the film's script is only loosely based on actual events, it's not hard to believe the men in the film and events that they experienced could very well have happened in real-life.

The film opens with the U.S. Marines regrouping in New Zealand after the fight for Guadalcanal had ended. Sergeant Stryker is assigned to command a platoon of Marines who are anxious to see some action. Stryker's hard-bitten, by-the-book command style (''Saddle-up! Saddle-up!'') soon rankles many of the men, especially Private Thomas (Forrest Tucker) who had fought alongside him before, and Private ... Read More
