VHS : Roots 6 Video Box Set
Perhaps the most famous TV miniseries of all time. Played for eight straight evenings in January of 1977. The country practically came to a halt during that time slot every evening. Over 130 million views tuned in to watch this amazing story of Alex Haley's family's roots and history. It has been translated into 28 languages since. While the story and technology may seem a little outdated today (how can it not?), this is one story worth watching to gain a better understanding our country's history and where we have come from. In many ways it is the story of our nation from the days of slavery through the great struggles for freedom for all. Kunta Kinte is the main character who was captured and forced into slavery as a young man and brought to America. Perhaps the most poignant moment in the movie ... Read More

VHS : The Straight Story
So many people are surprised my this movie. The fact that David Lynch could make a simple, straightforward, sweet story has left many surprised and dumbfounded. Have all of you forgotten about ELEPHANT MAN??? He portrayed John Merrick with a sweet and sensitive disposition. In the end David served up one of the most sad but poignant endings more so than the straight story. I'm only surprised that he never made more of this style. He is equally adept at this style as he is to his bizarre plot provoking mind twisted movies.

If you have the slightest hint of impatience then this movie then this is not for you. If not then you in for a gem. Richard Farnsworth performance as Alvin Straight is nothing short of brilliant. It's a sad shame too many people missed it.

This movie is ... Read More

I saw this movie, when it first landed in theaters. It is a little western. Will Penny was(is) a little Western--Will Penny is great--Tom Horn is less than great--Steve M. wants you to beleive he is like the real Tom Horn...I found it all very pretendious--McQueen should have done better---they say he was feeling bad--sickness that would end his life--Steve was a great actor--throw this movie and his last movie(the hunter) out--watch Steve in Nevada Smith--Bullitt---Love with a proper Stranger--Cincinnati Kid--Sand Pebbles--The Mag Seven--The Great Escape--Forget Tom Horn and The Hunter because I think he was sick when he made these films--there's only one Steve Mcqueen and who ever he WAS is not in these forgetable films--

VHS : Misery
If ever a movie has made me feel as trapped as its protagonist does, Misery stands right up there. I must admit that I have never read King's novel on which this film was based, but it didn't stop the movie from chilling my bones. It was an effort just to sit through it; it's that intense. James Caan and especially Kathy Bates deliver truly spectacular performances as popular (and, to his grudge, commercialised) writer Paul Sheldon and his psychotic "number one fan" Annie Wilkes. The movie has a justified reputation as a two-actor film, as the twisted relationship the characters share is what makes the movie so memorable.

Bed-ridden after being saved from a car crash in the midst of a blizzard in the Rocky Mountains, Paul Sheldon finds himself under the care of Annie Wilkes, a seemingly-kind recluse who ... Read More
