VHS : My Fair Lady (digitally THX mastered)
The only problem I have with this DVD of "My Fair Lady" is that it is in letter-box format & it's too scrunched down for me to read the lips. Good thing I know the movie by heart PLUS it has "closed captioning". Other than that, my friend & I completely enjoyed the movie. It arrived SO QUICKLY & the price was SO affordable! I'll do all my Christmas shopping at Amazon!

VHS : Midnight Lace
Fog-shrouded London is the setting for MIDNIGHT LACE, a glossy thriller starring Doris Day as a terrorised heiress.

Doris Day plays Kit, an American heiress, newly-married to suave English businessman Tony Preston (Rex Harrison). Kit's life couldn't be happier, until she becomes the target of obscene phonecalls and begins to have 'accidents'. The detectives at Scotland Yard begin to feel that perhaps Kit is seeking attention, and even Kit's loving Aunt Bea (Myrna Loy) has her doubts. Is Kit going mad? Or is a killer really out to get her?

Doris Day delivers a finely-pitched performance in this frothy thriller. In order to convey the reality of her character's situation, Ms Day drew from her abusive first marriage to musician Al Jordan. The painful memories that ... Read More

VHS : Blithe Spirit
Better to get the British version and import it while using a non-regional DVD then sit through the affront to the eyes that the American company is trying to sell us. David Lean's Technicolor is always exquisite, and never more so than in the complicated color designs of BLITHE SPIRIT, in which Charles and Ruth Condomine (Rex Harrison and Constance Cummings) sail through a variety of tweedy outfits that are so brilliantly detailed you can "read" every tooth in the houndstooth. (And Cummings has some wonderful period evening gowns that still look exquisite--she has a lovely figure here and always looks great, even when you're struggling to learn to like her.)

And then there's Elvira (Kay Hammond), summoned back from the dead by whom? (I won't say here, because that's the central ... Read More

VHS : The Agony and the Ecstasy
An impressive film that should be in any film buff's library. The scenery, acting and story are very well done. Some license is taken with the lives of both Michelangelo and Pope Julius II. However, the acting and exchanges between Heston as Michelangelo and Rex Harrison as Julius II is superb. Introduction to the film provides important views and impressions of the Vatican setting and the spectacular creation of the famous ceiling painted by Michelangelo. A must see film.

VHS : Ghost & Mrs Muir
And so begins one of the most romantic movies of all time. Certainly, THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR qualifies for a secure spot in the top ten. This tale of an impossible, yet enduring love is timeless, pure, and tender - a movie never to be forgotten, a movie to be watched again and again, especially with those you love.

The story of THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR is well known. A young widow, Lucy Muir, her daughter, and their housekeeper, Martha, move into a spectacular seaside house. The house is haunted by the previous owner, Captain Gregg, a curmudgeonly old sea captain who begrudgingly allows Mrs. Muir and her small family to stay. Eventually, Mrs. Muir and the Captain fall in love. However, Captain Gregg soon realizes that Mrs. Muir belongs in the world of the living, and he fades away, ... Read More

I have seen this movie several times and purchased it to obtain the disc with extra features. The disc would not play due to something being on it that I was unable to remove. I would like to know if there is a way to obtain the extras disc without flaws.
Thank you.

VHS : Night Train to Munich (B&W)
Having watched---and been quite enamored with Margaret Lockwood in "The Lady Vanishes" (3/4 of which takes place over rails), and having been impressed by that film's plot, dialogue, and direction I decided to board "The Night Train to Munich" so to speak, so as to continue the journey. Contrary to others herein, I cannot say that such was a wise decision on my part: First of all the quality of this film's recording is rather poor which doesn't help matters. Margaret Lockwood's role pales in comparison herein too; as this film is really one without a leading lady's role, notwithstanding Ms. Lockwood's talents. She was wonderful in Hitchcock's "The Lady Vanishes," but here has just not been given enough material to work with. (It's interesting to think that while "The Lady Vanishes" title is not at all suggestive ... Read More

VHS : Unfaithfully Yours
A cinema technique in advance of its time. Head and shoulders above its more recent remake. Harrison never got his just due for his outstanding comedic efforts. Rue de Valle and other period character actors make this absolutely worthwhile to own for any Preston Sturges fan.
