VHS : Sweet Home Alabama
The first time I saw this one, I thought Witherspoon's character was a little too unlikable for the lead in a romantic comedy, however, after watching the movie more than once I don't feel as much that way. This is a nice movie that still has a few surprises even though you kind of get the feeling you know where things are going. The one thing this movie is lacking that usually shows up in most romantic comedies is a seriously dumb moment in which the characters look goofy and completely unbelievable. That's a plus. The movie has fun with sterotypes about the south and big cities like New York without going too far over the line. It's definitely worth buying a copy of this movie for occasions when you want to watch a nice light movie.

Elle Woods(Reese Witherspoon) is young, blonde, beautiful and the president of Delta Nu Sorority, she has a hunky boyfriend Warner(Matthew Davis) and everything in her life seems pretty perfect.

That is until Warner dumps her for being too much of a marilyn, and not enough of a Jackie on the night Elle believes Warner will propose!

How dare he say Elle wasn't smart?! Now Elle is determined to go to Harvard to study Law(where Warner just happens to be going) to win her man back!

With the help of her sorority sisters, her dog bruiser and some well timed mani-pedis Elle gets into harvard, but it will take a lot more then just that to get her through difficult classes, snotty teachers, and the biggest obstacle, Warner's new fiance Vivian(Selma Blair). ... Read More

I was 14 years old when Cruel Intentions came out, and to my middle-school sensibilities it was absolutely the sexiest, most dramatic, decadent movie I could imagine. Of course now, I can see it for what it is, but I don't really enjoy it any less. Cruel Intentions updates the story of Dangerous Liaisons into a modern Manhattan prep school, and the story translates remarkably well. The youthful cast acquit themselves remarkably well, hitting just the right notes of entitlement and self-doubt. The story is melodramatic, but sharply written, not too long and with just enough mocking self-awareness to keep from being to ridiculousely serious. Cruel Intentions is a teen movie that teeters on the edge of eroticism (i.e. a remarkably chaste lesbian kiss), allowing its target audience to emulate the characters ... Read More

I love this movie! I first saw it when I was a freshman in High School, and I now use it to teach a geography lesson on the Kalahari for my eighth graders. They love it, too. One of my favorite comments from them was "I can't believe we are all hooked on a Disney Movie!" This came from a boy no less!

It's so hard to be fourteen, thinks Dani Trant; the closest she's been to falling in love is listening to Elvis on the record player and nobody seems to understand her anymore. It's not like when she was a kid and could tell her problems to the Man in the Moon and he'd solve them. Things change forever for Dani when a handsome boy moves in next door; she falls for him completely, but he has eyes for her big sister.

Reese Witherspoon made her film debut in this movie and she gives a wonderfully self-assured performance. She's part tomboy and all hormones and the combination is adorable and pure star quality. The movie is ably directed by Robert Mulligan who brought us "To Kill a Mockingbird," and like it, this tender coming-of-age story is honest, spirited, and quite touching. Recommended for ... A romantic screwball comedy that hits all the classic areas, but does it with style and flair, and just enough offbeat attitude (until I read the Amazon review I didn't know Kevin Smith wrote the original script, but there are still plenty of traces in the finished product) to make it well worth seeing. Paul Rudd and Reese Witherspoon have genuine chemistry, and Reese has never been more adorable. Would have gotten another 1/2 star if not for the no-frills package, but does contain both widescreen and pan-and-scan versions.

If you loved Reese Witherspoon in "Walk the Line," you'll wonder why she got involved with the movie- it's just bad from one end to the other. Even Bob Newhart stinks, and that's rare.

The plot is stupid, the jokes aren't funny, and the even the DVD case can't be reused because it's pink.

After we bought this stinker, we couldn't even sell it on E-bay.
