VHS : Dial M for Murder
Alfred Hitchcock had already begun work on Rear Window when he took on the project to direct Dial M for Murder, based on the successful play by Frederick Knott. For the film, Hitchcock chose to cast his favorite leading lady of the time, Grace Kelly, as the embattled Margot Wendice. Kelly would also star in Rear Window and Hitchcock's subsequent To Catch a Thief. It wasn't Hitchcock's preference to shoot Dial M for Murder in Warnercolor 3D (the cameras were large), and the film is seldom screened in 3D, but Hitchcock's use of the technique is notable for its service to the story rather than just being a gimmick. In the film Margot Wendice is a wealthy heiress whose playboy husband, Tony (Ray Milland), recognizes his dependence on his wife's fortune. When Tony begins to suspect he is losing ... Read More

Its time people realize somthing important. When George Lucas sat down to write star wars in the early 1970's he wrote episodes 1-6. Not 4-6, 1-3 but ALL six!!! He couldn't make a movie that long. So he came up with the story from ep 4 because he felt it was the best part for the time. It was the greatest film of all time. He did not expect it to do that well. He was exhausted from working on it, and vowed never to direct again, which is why he did not direct ep 5 and ep 6. However, years went by, and so did the technology (which his company developed!! ILM) which became CG. Now that it existed, he could tell the story he wanted to tell- ep 1-3. BY KNOCKING THIS MOVIE YOU ARE KNOCKING LUCAS HIMSELF!! Its his baby. NOW PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, get over Jar-Jar!! I was frankly blown away by the lightsaber ... Read More

VHS : The Matrix - Standard Collector's Edition
I just purchased the newly-in-a- keepcase (not a snapper)edition which has ©2008 on the back cover fine print (Amazon says 2007)
I had held out because I had heard rave reviews of the remaster for the box set back in 2003-which you could only buy in the set at the time . I already had the 1999 disc-so I could wait
So, 5 years later a new package, with new package design work, current year copyright,-and WHV sitting on a nice RM for a few years I thought "Aha! Now is the time to get it it!"=thinking that after all the years they would ditch the 1999 transfer.
I watched the movie and thought, hmmmmmmmm nothing here that outstanding-almost looks like the old disc.
So I put my disc into my iMac, opened it on the desktop-nothing!
I use this trick to determine when a discs is remastered. ... Read More

VHS : The Lonely Lady
Let no one say that this Harold Robbins show biz potboiler doesn't begin with a bang: On the very day that Valley High student Pia Zadora wins an award as "most promising English major," she parties with fast Beverly Hills High students, one of whom --- weed-smoking Ray Liotta --- fondles her award and proclains its resemblance to a member of the male anatomy, fondles her breast ("Valley girls are anxious to please!"), throws her onto the lawn ("I'm gonna give you something special!"), and rapes her with the nearby garden hose. All this in the film's first fifteen minutes! (You may think it can't possibly continue at this crazed, trashy pace --- but you are wrong: In the seventy-six minutes left, there are eight nude love scenes, two lesbian encounters, two showers, one hot tub, one Jacuzzi, and one pool table yet to come.) ... 7.Oklahoman starring: Joel McCrea, Barbara Hale, Brad Dexter, Gloria Talbott, Michael Pate

VHS : Oklahoman
Joel McCrea could play parts like he did in The Oklahoman in his sleep, but one of the things that made him infinitely likable in this kind of role was that he has a soft-spoken, easy going charm that made audiences warm up to him. He was never too hard or boisterous, but solid, kind-hearted and dependable. The Oklahoman is an example of standard McCrea fare, not outstanding, but certainly not the worst of the genre.

In this film, McCrea plays a doctor moving out west with his wife and infant daughter. On the trip, the wife gets sick and dies in Oklahoma territory. McCrea decides to stay in a nearby town, and becomes the town doctor. As his daughter grows up, he needs someone to look after her during the day. A young Indian girl whose father is a friend of McCrea moves into his house to help him take care of his daughter. Soon, ... Read More

8.Kiss Me Guido starring: Craig Archibald, Anthony Barrile, Bryan Batt, Craig Chester, Anthony DeSando

VHS : Kiss Me Guido
Basically, a feel good movie with a gay foundation. Very funny! Mixing straight people with gay people in a way they're forced to come to terms with, is always a funny device. Now, doing so using the most macho of male egos, the Guido-type, is the taking of this device to the extreme. But the straight guy in this film was a good egg and willing to learn how to cohabitate as a way to better his entire life. Gay humor, more so the catty wit of the gay male, kills me and this film didn't let me down. Lotta laughs and everybody wins in the end.

VHS : Lovin Molly
In my first review of this video, I neglected to mention that there is a powerful story here. Despite the movie's shortcomings, which are largely the result that telling it in detail would have made it too long, it is a good story. Each character(Gid, Johnny, and Molly) tell their version of their life together. Dates on screen help the viewer track the chronology as the story unfolds. It's a good buy, especially if you read the book also.
