VHS : The Thorn Birds - The Complete Miniseries
Overall well produced TV series and I watched intently with many emotions of passion, heartache, compassion, and joy for characters portrayed. The Stanwyk character was deplorable esp. with the line: on my mouth! YIKES!!! The aging process was well done for Cardinal Vittorio, Ralph, Grandma Fi, BUT Meggie looks more gorgeous every year, esp. the last scene, they tried to grey her hair, tho unevenly, during the same scene and nary a wrinkle....no biggie compared to her whisper yelling and flat dialogue, but very beautiful woman...Justine was prolly the worst cast in the series, waaay too wooden for a bohemian, maladjusted, wild child, head movements were even too stilted and not pretty enough to be Meggie's daughter...Dane portrayed the deepest expression of character as supported by the other ... C. Columbus: The Discovery DVD

This movie is probably the most historically accurate film that I've seen, so far, on Christopher Columbus. Contrary to what you might have been taught in elementary school the intelligentsia did not think the world was flat. They thought the world was round and was approximately 25,000 miles in circumference at the equator. Columbus thought the circumference at the equator was more like 18,000 miles. (25,000 is correct) Since Marco Polo had traveled by land to Cathay(China) going East for about 12,000 miles, all he would have to do was sail West for 6,000 miles and voila he'd arrive in the Indies. Well, he was wrong, but got lucky and hit the New World instead. I think it is pretty arrogant to say that Columbus "discovered" the New World. One ... Read More

VHS : Night School
Night school: the kids come to get ahead, the teachers come to get some head, and more than a few wind up losing their heads. Let me just caution you not to get too excited about this forgettable slasher film from 1981, though. Yes, we are talking about a girls-only night school full of sexually active young women, and, yes, the killings all end in decapitation. Unfortunately, the girls aren't all that hot, a discrete shower scene is the closest you'll come to seeing any nudity, the only hint of lesbianism is less than erotic, and we never get to see an actual beheading. In other words, Night School is basically as flat as a fritter - especially if you figure out the killer's identity early on (which isn't all that hard to do). Some say Rachel Ward is the film's only saving grace, but she doesn't rate ... Read More

This is a worthwhile movie to view, if only for the presence of soon to be famous actors. Joe Pantoliano, Rachel Ward, Daryl Hannah, and Mark Metcalf (Seinfeld's The Maestro) star in this sometimes brilliant slasher epic. While the gore is not plentiful, the mood is effective. If you love horror that plays on isolation watch this movie. Gore hounds might be disappointed.

This is a review of the 2000, Showtime, made-for-cable production based on the wonderful Nevil Shute novel. The plot is simply: A nuclear world war has occurred. Only Australia survives, temporarily, until the nuclear cloud arrives from the northern hemisphere. A surviving American submarine arrives in Australia. A story of drama and interpersonal relationships ensues.

A film of this story was previously produced in 1959, starring Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, Anthony Perkins, Fred Astaire. In my opinion, the 1959 version was superior.

This version is updated to bring us into the 21st century (not necessarily a good thing?). Now included are solar powered laptops, email, computer generated video displays, brutal street violence, raw crude language, an anti-military political agenda, and other such ... Read More

This movie scared me as a kid when I first saw it on HBO. It is action packed and really thrilling. You find yourself rooting for the teacher and her students. It takes place in Australia so the movie has that dialect, however, I encourage anybody who loves thrillers to see this movie.

The main reason I got this movie was because I had heard parts of it were shot on Isla Mujeres, a little island off of Cancun where I love to travel. I did recognize the scenes from there, plus there are good scenes of Tulum as well. The plot is pretty basic...Kurt Russell is a football player who loses his job. James Woods hires him to look for his girlfriend (Rachel Ward) who left him and ran off to Mexico. Russell finds her and they fall in love, but Ward has some quirky personality traits and ends up back in the states with Woods. I kind of lost interest when the plot shifted to the states. It's definitely not the best movie these three have done, but it's worth it for the scenes of Mexico.
