What else can I say about this movie? This... um... sequel (?) to a previous alien encounter film called Xtro is not only a blatant rip off of other, more popular Sci-Fi movies but it does them in the worst way possible. The script is a nightmare, the special effects are weak, the acting is weaker, and the whole idea just shouldn't have been done to begin with. Xtro II: The Second Encounter has nothing new (or even decent) to offer to science fiction or horror fans.

Have you seen the original Xtro? Don't worry if you haven't because this "sequel" has absolutely nothing to do with it. Not a single connection is made between the two movies other than an alien killer is on the loose. I guess director Harry Davenport just likes to name his alien invader movies Xtro no matter how unrelated ... Read More

VHS : Hellraiser VI - Hellseeker
Ahhhh. Hellraiser's back! Kinda. The title of this installment is HELLRAISER / HELLSEEKER. Yes. One hellraiser divided by one hellseeker. It turns out, that equals one pretty good movie, but without that much hell getting raised.

The hellseeker here is Trevor, who just so happens to be married to Kirsty Cotton (Ashley Laurence, reprising her role from the first two Hellraisers). They're a little too much in love, because they smooch while highway driving and, oops!, drive straight off a bridge and into a river. Trevor manages get out of the car, but Kirsty isn't so fortunate. She yanks on her seatbelt and bangs her palms on the window, but those things apparantly don't, you know, unlatch seatbelts or doors. Trevor swims back to save her, but since the only thing he does is also ... Read More

Not even Adrian Paul can save this one! His part was awful, (the character, not him personally). The budget for making the film must not have included enough to pay for lighting. This movie proves that there are some things that are better in the dark. Save your money on this one.

Primarily this film is action, adventure and intrigue. Crossing and double crossing. Who's allied with whom and why. But on another level, what another reviewer called bad acting is really ingenious, self-effacing humor. At heart, it's also a romance with a happy ending. I watched this film because the female lead, played by Teryl Rothery, is one of my favorite actors. She did a great job with a character who got to show more emotional range than one might expect for "the girl" in a film of this genre, but in the end (and along the way!) I enjoyed the story and the characters. Teryl's work made me pick it up and the quality of the film as a whole meant I watched the entire thing rather than fast forwarding to her scenes. (I have no patience for bad films!) The line of comedy for a film with so much "serious" ... Read More

This movie starts out a little self-consciously with some gratuitous violence and T&A. But it soon hits its campy stride. With Matt Frewer (LawnmowerMan 2) thoroughly enjoying his campy-evil bad guy role as Max Durbin,
"Durbin, you're not God."
"Yes, I know I'm not God...(sly smile)...not yet."
C. Thomas Howell is hilarious as the billard cue wielding particle physicist, "Go ahead, ask me about any particle!"
All these characters are aboard a Cryogenic Transport in orbit above an ecologically devastated earth. There is a plan involving the Hubble and a solar flare to fix the Earth (don't ask).
This movie was fun to watch, I recommend it to open-minded Sci-Fi fans.
