Well this was entertaining, you can't deny that, and in various parts of the film there were some subtle moments between the action sequences.

It only just merits 3 stars for me. Jason Statham is not a great actor, but as Frank he does this part as well as I've seen him do anything. The actor who played the French Police Inspector was by far the best thing on the screen.

So its certainly a 'high-octane' thriller, and in places it doesn't take itself entirely seriously (which I like). However this is not in the same league as say the original Die Hard. Rent it first or buy cheap, as you may be dissappointed.

VHS : Jackie Chan's Gorgeous
GORGEOUS is a change of pace for Jackie Chan. Oh, this one still boasts your basically incredible martial arts sequences, but, really, this film marks Jackie Chan's foray into romantic comedy territory. And, despite that Jackie doesn't seem to have the acting range to pull off this type of leading man role, the other elements in this picture lift it into something I find quite entertaining.

The plot revolves around a young starry-eyed village girl named Bu (Qi Shu), who finds a message in a bottle and flies to Hong Kong to meet the message's author. In Hong Kong Bu meets and falls for C.N. (Jackie Chan), a wealthy, lonely playboy businessman heading up a trash recycling empire. But as Bu and C.N. become close, their fledgling romance is interrupted by C.N.'s lifelong rival, who ... Read More

Prepare to be overwhelmed with the stunning cinematography of this film. The plot is well developed, the acting is flawless, and the actors are definitely easy on the eyes! This would have been a 5 star movie had the ending been a little less predictable. Once you know who everyone REALLY is, you know exactly which character is going to be killed off. But even knowing that, you will still be holding your breath, right to the teary-eyed end, hoping that you are wrong this time...

Millennium Mambo (Hsiao-Hsien Hou, 2001)

I've been trying to write this review for a month, forcing myself to mull this movie over in my head, because everyone and their mothers raves about the films of Hsiao-Hsien Hou. Now, I'm more than willing to admit that I'm just thick most of the time, but I'm not entirely sure that's the case here. Maybe I don't get it because there's just nothing to get.

Millennium Mambo is a slice-of-life film about a bunch of youth. Sex, drugs, and what in slightly earlier days would be rock and roll (but instead, is the pale imitation known as techno). The cast is ensemble, though Vicky (Qi Shu of Sex and Zen II and The Transporter, among many others) is as close to a central character as we've got. She's got a boyfriend who DJs and a pretty nasty ... Read More

Bruce Law - known for his work as an action choreographer, directs his debut film Extreme Crisis... so what's the big deal? Can't think of anything right now... maybe if I watch it again and again and again (but not likely). Universe Laser and Video Company released this DVD under their label - so you can expect great quality video, sound and DVD extras (trailers, making of, multiple languages and subtitles, stars files, etc. etc.)

The movie itself is a big budget, Hong Kong version of Die Hard and The Rock - both of which are far more superior films. In fact, it has so much similarities between the two - that it starts to look like a shameless rip-off. What's the difference between a rip off and an inspired idea? An inspired idea actually makes the film better... a rip-off usually makes the film worse. ... Read More

You know somewhere deep inside this muddled action flick lies a much better film. Sadly, however, you will not see that better one. All you can see is one unoriginal caper, two poorly-done gun actions, and so-so eye-candy images of seven lovely women walking and talking like Charles' Angels.

Shu Qi plays Cat, a retired thief whose ex-boyfriend is taken hostage by Russian gangsters. They order her to steal an anti computer-virus software (but they never think about just buying it with the money they have spent on the helicopter and so many weapons) Anyway, Cat's former partners re-group for her to rescue the poor man, but things do not go as they originally planned, and so on and on.

The names of these characters -- Qi Shu as Cat, Kelly Lin as Octopus, Sandra Ng as Monkey, Teresa Mak as Goldfish, Rachel ... Read More
