VHS : The Winds of War
This is my first purchase of anything that had to deal with the 2nd world war. Sure, I've watched Private Ryand and Bands of Brothers but this series showed the makeup behind the USA getting slapped at Pearl Harbor. If anyone is looking for a history lesson via the DVD arena, this series sums it up within 15 hours.

VHS : War and Remembrance, Vol. 2 (Boxed Set)
This is quite a bit longer than Winds of War and it may not need to be. I skip over parts that deal with the trials and tribulations of people who, in Winds of War wandered around Europe not heeding good advice to get out while they could. Here, again, they are places where they should not be. I originally taped Winds of War and then made an edited copy I called "The Pug Henry Story". I have not done that with the DVD or with War and Remembrance, though I sense such an edit would be very desirable. In the meantime, get ready to fast forward or skip chapters to bring this down to a reasonable length.

5.Move over Darling starring: Doris Day, James Garner, Polly Bergen, Thelma Ritter, Fred Clark

VHS : Move over Darling
This fantastic remake of an old Cary Grant movie about a woman who returns home after being pronounced dead is one that can be watched over and over by the whole family. It is one of Doris Day's best and James Garner makes a great partner for her in this film. There are other great supporting players, though Polly Bergen seems to be miscast. Doris's "massage" where she references the old Cary Grant movie is hilarious! A movie worth getting!

6.Caretakers starring: Robert Stack, Polly Bergen, Diane McBain, Joan Crawford, Janis Paige

"You've seen these women --- disturbed, psychotic, miserable," Dr Robert Stack tells starlet nurses about the patients in Borderline, his controversial group therapy experiment. We can't agree that they're mentally ill, for these aren't Borderline Bad Actressess -- they're the Long Since Gone Over the Distant Horizon players.

MEET THE GALS: Finger-snappin' Sharon Hugueny coos, "Free like a daisy, a lazy daisy" and ex-hooker Janis Paige snarls, "Play it, kid: 'I was a Teenage Lunatic'"; mute Barbara Barrie demonstrates that no dialogue's required to fit in with this crowd; Ana St. CLair (whose screen credit reads, "courtesy of DeMedici Productions of Argentina") has a terminal case of Needing to Be Photographed Through Lots of Vaseline Over the Lens that when she's shot in closeup she's out ... Though opinions of the film may vary you won't hear too many bad things about this soundtrack. Even the plain Jane single disc version has a bevy of stirring tracks and tender moments making it one of the more interesting soundtracks of the 70's (because let's face it, musically, the 70's have a lot to answer for!).

The score by Jerry Goldsmith utilises some interesting signature sounds as the composer tried to convey an Islamic feel, a North African bent to proceedings. Some may find this jarring but if you can relax and let the sounds wash over you then you'll come to appreciate it more. The sound quality is fine, the digital mastering done by George Horn doesn't seem overly compressed nor does it seem to be different in overall feel to the music in the actual film, the mastering appears ... My Review
I had seen this a while back on tv. Not completely in full, but most of the film. So recently i found the DVD at my local best buy for 5.99. I bought it with 2 other 5.99 dvds (being The Great White Hype, and The Adventures of Pinnochio). So today i watched it and i rediscovered why i enjoyed the movie so much. Its not a horror film, its a comedy. The acting i thought was pretty good and the effects while not the best were decent ... Read More

VHS : Kisses for My President (B&W)
Most of the scripting in this movie is really dated, but Polly Bergen does a good job with the material which she had to work with. Of course, this owes to the fact that she is an awesome actor to begin with.

Fred MacMurray gives an equally compelling role as the First Gentleman. Frankly, since he was playing a role which was actually disparaged when this film was made (the idea of a dominant wife/subservient husband was-then scandalous) he deserves additional kudos for having to 'climb uphill'. His character has to put-up with now-riddiculous ideas for anybody but he also comes through the screenplay like a champ.

The sets are really well designed. The production department wanted viewers to feel as if they are in the White House during this film. The viewers are supposed to balance the ... Read More

10.Escape From Fort Bravo starring: William Holden, Eleanor Parker, John Forsythe, William Demarest, William Campbell

VHS : Escape From Fort Bravo
William Holden is perhaps Hollywood's most underrated actor. Here he shines as Capt Roper the cynical Union soldier who is known for keeping prisoners in Fort Bravo. Despite his cynicism, he raises roses in the desolate Arizona desert.

This movie is a classic western with a love triangle, the battle-hardened soldier who falls in love and the manipulative woman who finds real romance in the least likely place. We also have a harrowing Indian attack.

Despite the cliches, I loved this movie because of Holden's performance. He does play the hardened soldier perfectly and that makes this interesting.
