this is a fantastic movie. it's campy and fun and very positive. this movie is a well known and much loved classic. it's entertaining for adults and appropriate for kids (if you're familiar with john waters and have some reservations) my preteen daughter showed it to her friends at her birthday party, and all the girls got up to try out the dances and giggled their heads off. how anyone could even think of comparing it to the travolta crap is beyond me, let alone like the other one better. this is the movie that started the whole thing. the broadway play was ripped off from this movie, and that other version is ripped off from the broadway play. this version is better in every respect. better cast, better writing, better costumes, better music. ricki lake is awesome.

VHS : The Lonely Lady
Let no one say that this Harold Robbins show biz potboiler doesn't begin with a bang: On the very day that Valley High student Pia Zadora wins an award as "most promising English major," she parties with fast Beverly Hills High students, one of whom --- weed-smoking Ray Liotta --- fondles her award and proclains its resemblance to a member of the male anatomy, fondles her breast ("Valley girls are anxious to please!"), throws her onto the lawn ("I'm gonna give you something special!"), and rapes her with the nearby garden hose. All this in the film's first fifteen minutes! (You may think it can't possibly continue at this crazed, trashy pace --- but you are wrong: In the seventy-six minutes left, there are eight nude love scenes, two lesbian encounters, two showers, one hot tub, one Jacuzzi, ... VHS : American Songbook
By now, the whole world must know that Ms. Zadora is much better a singer than an actress. On this video, she presents a selection of her favorite American standards, from Broadway classics to Stevie Wonder and in between she explains a little bit about the songs and why she sings them. I would have given 5 stars for the singing, but this production seems a little bit too rehearsed to me : I'm sure that Pia means every word she says, but there seems to be no room for spontaneity. But that doesn't change the fact that the songs are brought in a very original way with unique song-styling. A must for fans and for anybody who's ready to change his mind about Pia's talent!

VHS : Voyage of the Rock Aliens
A good Pia Zadora film is truly a contradiction in terms. But even at their trashy self-promoting worst (BUTTERFLY, FAKE OUT, THE LONELY LADY), they never scaled the queasy heights that 'VOYAGE OF THE ROCK ALIENS' reaches with its desperate last-ditch attempts to showcase Pia's ...for lack of a better word... talent.
