VHS : A Bug's Life
Sure, we have a three year old at home. Now and then we watch TV together. Since watching movies with my kid is kind of new, I'm looking more closely at what to watch. Just about everything from Pixar and John Lassiter is some of the most inspired stuff I've come across.
The characters, the stories, the animation and the casting all create a high water mark not just for children's viewing but for every one.
"A Bugs Life" is certainly one of the better ones in the group. I can say this after several, and I mean several viewings.

VHS : Eight on the Lam
A "Guilty pleasure"? Perhaps but I never fail to be amused by the wacky chemistry of Bob Hope and Phyllis Diller in their work together. Having literally discovered Phyllis Diller in her night club act Bob Hope had the unique Miss Diller, who's trademark was wild hair and even crazier clothes, as his leading lady in three mid 1960's films, "Boy Did I Get a Wrong Number!", "The Private Navy of Sgt. O'Farrell" and this effort, "Eight on the Lam". While the humour here is certainly not to everyone's taste they tickle my funny bone and the two make a memorable team usually involved in some outrageous set of situations that could only come out of a 1960's movie. With the feel of a sitcom about it "Eight on the Lam", has humour that is simple and straightforward and trades heavily on Bob Hope and ... Read More

VHS : Boy Did I Get a Wrong Number
The three Bob Hope/Phyllis Diller comedies made in the mid 1960's, ie "Boy Did I Get A Wrong Number", "Eight On The Lam", and "The Private Navy Of Sgt. O'Farrell", despite being blasted by the "critics", have always been great favourites of mine since I was a child. The crazy duo of Hope and Diller at first glance might appear mismatched as screen personalities however in their movies together they always manage to produce comic magic in my belief. As a clear sign of the very real chemistry between the pair you only have to witness any scene they share in this particular film to see the screen literally light up, as they go through their verbal and physical highjinks together. Never a romantic couple on screen their main trademark was an hilarious banter sprinkled with critical barbs that were ... Read More

VHS : Silence of the Hams
Well, I have to disagree with the self-proclaimed "truth seeker". "truth seeker" clearly has no appreciation for spoofs in general. This movie is very entertaining. To enjoy a good spoof, you have to appreciate the movies that helped create it. In any case, the Silence of the Hams is a very funny experience. Using some of the greatest movies like Silence of the Lams and Psycho, this is just wonderful film work. Much worth the price of this hard-to-find video.

VHS : Happily Ever After
I remember LOVING this movie as a kid. Instead of Prince Charming being the knight in shining armor, it's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfelles who turn around and save *him*... I loved Lord Malice, Sunburn and Scowl the Owl (though I could never figure out why a guy like him would hang around someone who's *that* annoying). I could tell the film was pretty rare and was obviously not made by Disney.

I think a possible point of the film was feminine power, that the princess is just as capable of rescuing the prince as the other way around. The "Shadowman" adds a hint of mystery on their journey to the Realm of Doom (I would've liked to see more of this journey, they pretty much cut to the chase which was a mistake, there could've been some real character development along the way). The owl provides comic ... Read More
