This is my reason for disliking Sean Penn AND Madonna. On the plus side, this movie and Who's That Girl showcase Madonna's lack of natural acting ability so one is never tempted to even wonder if her remake of the Italian classic Swept Away deserves a look-see and if you hated Sean Penn's cannibalistic turn in Mystic River, you'll love this film as evidence of the actor's lack of integrity and fairness albeit towards the Chinese who aren't supposed to be worth much never mind the rise of their currency. I was fortunate enough to be in the audience of the original Broadway run of Evita and I have the cast recording and I am convinced that Madonna basically and only copied what she could glean off the recording of Patti Lupone's performance for the extended music video that was the moovie Evita. ... Forewarned is forearmed. I read several reviews of this movie, before I watched it, that cautioned me it would be disapointing. The reviewers, without saying so in as many words, let me know that this movie was low budget when filmed. I must add that many folks at home could reproduce all the action seen in this movie with a couple of video cameras and two VCRs.
Now, having understood all that, I watched the flick with a strong intent to laugh at its sad quality. Rather like one would with "The Rocky Horrer Picture Show." It worked.
I roared with delight as the undead knight sliced a large chunk from a huge boulder with a swipe of his deadly blade, yet his blows were blocked by six inch diameter saplings. I huffed along with Lancellot as the lanky youth bent iron bars with his feet ... Read More

Below average re-telling of the "alien lands on earth" cliche found in most American horrors of the 50's except this time its done terribly. The actors are all monotonous grade z-horror fodder, namely the woman who was in one of Lamberto Bava's early works, equally as bad as this. The story goes haywire when there is a midget clown attacking people with an absurd hand saw and the end doesn't really tell much about the intentions of the alien. Terrible film......

What an outstanding film this is. I saw it in 1984 when it released on VHS. Glad it's out on DVD after 20 years. Peter Coyote is excellent as STONE an armed robber with his own style of non-violence shall we say ? Unfortunately when a routine robbery goes out of hand and an innocent young nine year old girl is killed by accident, the father of the young girl seeks out his own brand of revenge to bring down STONE and his members. Brilliantly filmed director Terry Bedford shows a fine flair for directing films of this genre. Watch out for the spectacular suspense filled climax. Wow ! Watch this one immediately.

VHS : The Hunger
THE HUNGER is one of the best vampire movies around. The mysterious, bloodsucking Blaylocks (Catherine Deneuve as Miriam and David Bowie as John) live a non-life of luxury and debauched serial-murder / feeding. Doctor Sarah Roberts (Susan Sarandon) gets mixed up w/ the deadly duo when John begins aging at an incredibly accelerated rate. Dr. Roberts might be able to help him since she happens to be doing research into slowing the aging process. Miriam falls for Sarah and makes plans to replace the now-decrepit John. The seduction / consumation scenes between Miriam and Sarah are as elegant as they are HOT! I've always loved Ms. Sarandon's eyes, and she displays quite a bit more here! Bowie is excellent in his ill-fated role. THE HUNGER stands as a vampire masterpiece...
