VHS : The Story of Dr. Wassell / Movie
This movie I consider among my favorites. It is a true story of a doctor
who ended up on Java and saved many wounded men who were rejected entrance
into a ship leaving for safety because they could not get up and walk. It is
an amazing story and I am hoping someone will get it transfered to DVD before
it is beyond saving!

Yvette Mimeux plays Sloane, his much younger sister, recently returned from San Francisco after finishing college. With her, she has childhood chum, Paul Kahanna, (Bobby Darren) whom she has decided she wants to marry. Paul is 100% pure Hawaiian! Paul's mother, who regrets the loss of her ethnic group through intermarriage with Caucasians, never-the-less offers an engagement party at her house. King objects to the idea of marriage, and so does Sloane's sister-in-law, Laura. Laura arrived on the island many years ago to help raise Sloane after King's wife and son died in a tidal wave. VHS : They Met in Bombay
They Met in Bombay is a film about two thieves, one of which is amateurish but successful (Rosalind Russell) and one who takes his time and replaces jewels with fakes to buy himself time (Clark Gable). The two stumble upon each other when they both plan to steal the same piece and join up when things do not go as well as they had planned. They escape on a Chinese boat heading toward Hong Kong with a suspicious captain whose money hungry behavior is detrimental for their cause (Peter Lorre). The thieves head toward China themselves but find themselves in the midst of an impending war with Japan. For authority purposes, Gable disguises himself as an officer in the military but gets roped into a major scuffle with the Japanese army.

There are plenty of great events throughout this movie which ... Read More

VHS : Love Is a Many-Splendored Thing
I remember watching this film with my mom on a weekday afternoon as a kid and wondering why she was crying at the end. It seemed boring as a kid watching it. But as my taste for movies advanced, so did the understading of this film. I took a chance on this film again and was pretty touched by it. It's a carefully patterned film with one of my favorite actors. William Holden is a true romantic leading man. He would get another shot on a similar project, "The World of Susie Wong." The casting of Jennifer Jones was satisfactory as she plays her part very well, although it loses it's luster as she is not asian. But it's the backdrop of Hong Kong and the beautifully photographed landscape that impressed me the most, epecially the unforgetable musical score that surrounds the couple. Though the film does ... I first saw this movie as a kid when it was first released. I have seen it a number of times since then and always enjoy it. Is the casting a little 'off'? Certainly! Is the idea of Bogart as a priest somewhat strange? Absolutely! But does he play the role well? Yes! Is Lee J. Cobb amusing as a Chinese Warlord? Indeed! Is his make-up exaggerated? Yes, beyond belief!!! But again, does he play his role well? Yes! And the others, do they play their roles well? No question! I read the reviews posted here and find that what others say is true - but - this is still an entertaining film, reasonably well acted, and has a superb cast. This is not a movie to be dismissed. It stands the test of time and it stands up to be reseeing. I whole heartedly recommend it to everyone.

This movie and the DVD series of Seasons one, two and three, from the original T.V. show are a Must See. The lessons learned from them are integrating themselves into my life and creating permanent, positive changes. I heartily recommend everyone watch them, even if you saw the series 30 years ago. The lessons in life, if taken, will positively change your life forever. By the way, David Carradine is fantastic. No one could ever match his performance in such a role.
