VHS : It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (Ws)
I enjoyed this movie as a kid, but watched it recently and found it to be bloated and dated and not all that funny. However, the final two minutes are one of the most profoundly spiritual moments in the history of cinema.

The lesson learned by Spencer Tracy's character, that life is inherently absurd and laughter is the best medicine for melancholy, is one that we can all benefit from. When sadness strikes, I watch the final two minutes several times in a row, and experience a healing catharsis.

This all sounds a little pompous and pretentious (even to me), but it is true nevertheless.

I remember watching this film on TV when I was a kid.

In the 1990's I grabbed it the minute it was released on video tape.

Where the heck is the DVD of this for Disney/Disneyland fans?

The first film at Disneyland.

Story a simple 1960's film. I liked Suzanne's character.

Interesting to see old casinos.

Disneyland fan I am seeing the park in color early 1960's is great. Monorail & Matterhorn. Incorrect shots-getting off the Monorail & they are looking at Sleeping Beauty Castle?

Apparently Walt moved it for the film? Ha ha.

The use of the park I thought was great.

Whether you are a Disney fan or not and just looking for a simple, no curse words, no nudity comedy then ... Read More

I remember watching this Gina Lollobrigida movie with my family many many years ago. We enjoyed it very much. My sister and I recently saw "Mama Mia" at the theater. It has the same story line but we would both love to own this older movie because it was a childhood favorite. I think other baby boomers would love it too!

VHS : Summer Stock
"Summer Stock" has always been one of my favorite movies. Because it's the type of old movie that everyone can enjoy. There's singing and dancing and lots of laughs and drama and theatrics. In this picture Miss Judy Garland (may she rest in peace) stars as Jane Falbury, a farmer who reluctantly allows a theater company to stay on at her farm to rehearse for their big performance. I know the story is a little hockey, but does that matter, really?

This is the very first time I ever saw a picture with Mr. Gene Kelly (playing the male lead, Joe Ross) and he was absolutely perfect. Anyone could tell that there was a lot of magic and chemistry between him and Miss Garland because when they were on the screen together it was always amazing to watch.

My favorite part in the movie is at ... Read More

VHS : A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
I love Richard Lester's style of direction( Hard Day's Night, The Ritz, Three Muskateer's etc). Zero Mostel in a role that rivals his performance in the Producer's will have you rolling on the floor. Phil Silvers is at his best as a wheeler dealer. The Roman Empire lasted in spite of the shenanigans here. A story of mixed up love and misdirection. Will they pull it off or will they fall to the conquerer who raped Thrace thrice? Anyway it's a very funny movie at a greta price.

VHS : All Through the Night
Nazi fifth columnists, led by sinister, sadistic Peter Lorre as Pepi, are infiltrating a city, and big-time gambler Humphrey Bogart is there to weed them out. When a popular baker is found murdered, Bogart investigates. He's led to a warehouse and discovers a room filled with Nazi paraphernalia and a book that explains what happened to the baker (he also gets a lot of help from Kaaren Verne, who has been forced to play along with the Nazis). In a fiery climax, while a motorboat packed with explosives is being directed toward a battleship to blow it up, Bogart takes control, sees Lorre get killed, and then steers the boat away from the ship before diving overboard to safety. He gets a hero's welcome, of course, and Verne. Lorre is excellent as the evil Pepi, killing at will and at another point smashing the fingers of a guy ... Read More

VHS : Four Jills in a Jeep
This 1944 film starring Kay Francis,Martha Raye,Mitzi Mayfair and Carole Landis starts off on the slow side but you quickly get caught up in the action and you soon feel like you are sitting in on a real live USO show during WW2!And I think that's just what the producers wanted to convey.
The story is based roughly on the real life USO exploits of its' leading ladies.Phil Silvers does a nice, funny turn as the sergeant that is detailed to escort the ladies from one USO show to the other. The girls start out stateside but eventually get send over to England.Always eager to go that one step further "for the boys" Martha Raye lets it slip to a general that she and the girls desperately want to get to the front lines to entertain the boys. When the transfer actually comes through to North Africa, much to everyone's shock, the girls bravely ...
