VHS : The Big Lebowski
I love this movie. In my opinion, it's hands-down the best comedy ever made. These extras are LAME though. Stop raping my wallet, Universal! Get the Coens involved and give us fans some worthwhile extras. This aggression will not stand. Put out one more lousy revamp of the same old thing again and you're entering a world of pain... a world of pain.

VHS : Armageddon (1998)
This movie is one of the silliest, dumbest movies I have ever seen. When I saw this film, it was apparent that no thought, no research, no intelligence went into the writing at all. Let's start with the basic premise of the film. An asteroid is discovered and we have 17 days until it hits. What do we do? In the real world, we bend over and kiss our butt goodbye. There is absolutely *no* way a mission such as this could be planned, trained-for and executed in this time. 17 days wouldn't be enough time to prepare a standard shuttle launch, much less one with this type of mission. This movie blindly ignores this fact. I am always distressed when films treat people as mere cattle, props to use while pounding a point home and then forget. In the open of the movie, New York is hit with a barrage of ... Read More

VHS : 8MM
I am certainly NOT a Nicolas Cage fanatic, and I've never liked much of Joel Schumacher's work (especially his ultra-silly Batman sequels). However, I did find 8MM to be interesting as well as somewhat disturbing. Cage, as private investigator Tom Welles, must plumb the depths of human depravity and degradation in order to uncover the truth behind a snuff film. Though goofy in spots, I was pleased by most of the dialogue and action. Joaquine Phoenix is excellent as porn-shop worker, Max California. As a sort of tour-guide, he leads Welles down through deeper, ever darkening levels of illicit behavior, into an underground universe where anything goes. Peter Stormare (Fargo, Unknown) is his usual eeevil self as bondage-film auteur, and all around madman, Dino Velvet. James Gandolfini (Tony Soprano himself!) ... Read More

Bruce Willis again shows his great range of acting ability! It is a great thriller! If you haven't seen this film I strongly recommend it. The supporting actors and actresses do a fantastic job too! As a lover of movies I would also recommend this film for seeing again and again. Now for an interesting book: A Night in the Tropics (Book 1) (Hardcover)

[BEWARE SPOILERS]

I don't know whether I've ever watched a film in which I identified more with all the characters than I did in this emotionally wrenching masterwork from the late, great Louis Malle. It is part of the genius of Malle to, like Shakespeare, make every character real and to see and present the depth of even those slightly off stage.

I could begin with the youngest, the daughter Sally (Gemma Clarke) who says little and is always at a slight distance, her serious face in the backseat of the car seemingly thinking dark thoughts, her face down the hallway at night, seemingly knowing that her father has committed adultery with her brother's fiancée--yet not knowing. Louis Malle wanted a certain expression on her face; he wanted the primeval depth of her character as a being that knows more than ... Read More

VHS : The Lost World - Jurassic Park (Collector's Edition)
*Spoiler Alert - Some plot details are included in this review*

The transition from popular novel to Hollywood film often results in a misshapen mess, and that is certainly the case with this disastrous sequel to the fantastic Jurassic Park.

The Lost World is simply a stupid film. I won't belabor the misspent opportunities to include good sequences from the book because I know that what works well on paper doesn't always work as well on the big screen. Still, the sheer lameness of the screenplay, the horrendous 'Hollywoodification' of the basic characters and plot, is beyond belief.

The first 2/3's of the film deal with the capture of the T.Rex, which requires an entire army of what must be, quite frankly, mentally challenged mercenaries. Most of these are casually swallowed by various 'meat-a ... Read More

A great sequel. Even funnier than the 1st one. I'm hoping to see a Bad Boys 3 in the future with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence as the main focus.
