The movie arrived in good condition and quickly. The only problem was, I had ordered the older version of the movie (1949), not the 1994 version.

Movie is long but it sure does give you a view of how poorly people were treated. It was great to see how their belief kept them strong

I can't begin to tell you how this movie affected me when I saw it. Being an adolescent when I saw this made me believe that that was what true love really was about. The music to this day sends chills through me. I think one of the other reviewers summed up all the psychological nuances in the film. I decided at that time I did not want my life to end up like, Brubaker or his wife's. I saw the film for love. When He made it on the plane it was like yes this is how life should be! I loved the show, loved the music. Catherine was my very first crush and I would follow her anywhere. I have tried to live my life like I belive Brubaker and Catherine did after they landed in Paris. Its a great period movie but it says so much that is still applicable to life in the 21st century. Some things never ... Read More

VHS : Rosebud (1975)
Preminger, who is my favorite American director, was not spared the brunt of bad reviews and publicity towards the end of his career. At times, the critics were quite savage in their analysis of his latter films. In my opinion, this was a time where he shined the most, and was in top form. He tackled new ground and continued to break taboo without audiences knowing. From TELL ME THAT YOU LOVE ME JUNIE MOON to SUCH GOOD FRIENDS to ROSEBUD and finally to THE HUMAN FACTOR, this was another renaissance for Preminger. Agreed, ROSEBUD was not a masterpiece. Elements such as Cliff Gorman's atrocious acting, loose ends and implausibility hold it back from reaching its ultimate goal, but it was not the turkey that Leonard Maltin (et al.) made it out to be. On the contrary, it is a highly atmospheric thriller, ... Read More

I remember watching this Gina Lollobrigida movie with my family many many years ago. We enjoyed it very much. My sister and I recently saw "Mama Mia" at the theater. It has the same story line but we would both love to own this older movie because it was a childhood favorite. I think other baby boomers would love it too!

VHS : Ocean's 11
Probably one of the best "Heist" films of all time...period. OCEAN'S 11 has been scrutinized off and on over the years and now that all the original "Rat-Packers" have passed away, and with the Steve Soderbergh & George Clooney remake with sequels completed, the film has been elevated to "Classic" status. When the film was shown on network and local television over the years before the advent of VHS and DVD, the movie was padded with commercials and almost shown to 2-1/2 to 3 hour lengths. The movie suffered in its pacing and tone. When shown without the commercial interruptions on video, PBS, or cable, it fares way better. Even though there is really a serious and understated tone to this Rat Packer film, the real treat here is just to see "the guys"(who represented the swinging coolness of the late 50's/early ... The doberman's are the "gimmick" in an otherwise average movie. However they are an impressive gimmick. The trainers get the dogs to do some amazing things. There's "kind of" a plot and "kind of " some acting a few decent lines and Katherine Ross but the Dobies and their acting are the main course. Imagine a "Benji" movie for grown-ups. If you are interested in animal training or dobermans, you'll like this movie.

10.Advise and Consent starring: Franchot Tone, Lew Ayres, Henry Fonda, Walter Pidgeon, Charles Laughton

VHS : Advise and Consent
Imagine a film where dialogue was so taut and so well spoken that it became the central conveyor of the plot. That sort of film lives mostly in yesteryear, and it lives magnificently in "Advise and Consent", a riveting examination of the ongoing struggle between the basest instincts and noblest ideals of our elected officials.

The plot line is keyed to the nomination for high public office of a former University of Chicago professor accused of consorting with radicals. (Coming off the 2008 U.S. presidential election, does this sound familiar?) The nomination sets off the usual legislative maneuvering and partisan gamesmanship, convincingly brought to life by great ensemble acting and peppered with wonderful performances by Charles Laughton, Walter Pidgeon, George Grizzard and Burgess Meredith. (The establishing ... Read More
