As for the person who complained that Martin Scorcese called the '80's the "me" decade, that was a popular theme of the time. Maybe you should go back and look at 80's and the literature about it from all kind of sources. Just like the 20's was often refered to as the "Roaring" 20's. 80's was often called the "me" decade. I also think it is not a liberal or conservative designation. Following the internalization of values and desires in the 70's, the 80's was when technology, growth, income and development all led to the application of the 70's trend of an individual ethic. People DID become more selfish and self centered, more complacent, in need of more instant gratification.

This is more than a film, "Manufacturing Consent" has long been a tool of peace workers who wanted to inform others of the shameful U.S. policies toward countries like East Timor. This film's segment regarding the U.S. support of Indonesia's invasion of East Timor was used to raise awareness and galvanize support for the independence struggle that took place on that island nation, culminating in its becoming a member of the United Nations and a pair of East Timorese winning the Nobel Peace Prize.

Beyond that, "Manufacturing Consent" has exposed the institutional flaws of a media that is owned and sponsored by corporate powers. This theme is further explored by the director, Mark Achbar, in his equally enlightening documentary The Corporation. In the several years since it was ... Read More

Great movie. Really brings to the forefront behind the scene politics. Gets one thinking about issues one would probably never think about. Moore really does a great job of making people aware. I've seen only two of his projects but have enjoyed both.

I modestly recommend this video, as it contains the on-camera comments of former Secret Service agent's Tony Sherman, Larry Newman, Joe Paolella, and William "Tim" McIntyre, all of whom I have spoken to and/ or corresponded with myself. That said, I do not endorse Seymour Hersh's book, per se...but there is much of value in what these agents have to say.

Absolutely wonderful - first class acting and incredibly informative. My teen daughters, were as engrossed as their father and me. Top notch and recommend to all high school and up who have an interest in science, geography, history or any number of other subjects that this movie based on a book covers. Having seen the actual clock in Greenwich many times, it made the viewing even more delicious and interesting. I certainly would not rate it R, there was nothing remotely distasteful in this movie. Buy it, rent it, but don't miss it!
