VHS : Rasputin (1996)
This is a beautifully depicted film. Yes, it is based on fact, but I am sure than no movie can really accurately described what really went on in the lives of the Romanovs. However, as a movie, its really brilliant. Its utterly mesmerizing, and it really is all thanks to Alan Rickman. He is utter perfection in this. His portrayal of the infamous Rasputin is genius and almost creepy. The likeness is undeniable. This is a dramatic film and I really wish a proper dvd would finally come out.

VHS : Anne of The Thousand Days
I have loved this movie since the first time I saw it when it was released. What acting! Don't you love to hear Richard Burton's voice? And Ms. Bujold...her acting makes the part. Now for some good news I wanted to share. I went to the Universal Movie Studios website, actually to ask them when the TV series Centennial might ever be released on DVD (another absolute favorite of mine) and it says on the site that on Sept. 18, 2007 it will be released on DVD as a 2-movie collection: Anne of The Thousand Days and Mary, Queen of Scots. Did I make anyone else's day like reading that made mine? Hope so.

"Made-for-TV" cannot excuse any of this.
As a fan of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", "Godzilla", and just about any production that dresses up actors in rubber outfits, I had little doubt that my expectations - having been placed not too high - would easily be met by a wannabe-'80s PG title, starring Omri Katz of "Eerie Indiana" fame. I had watched the film years ago, but had largely forgotten much of its happenings, and therefore was eager to refresh my memory. Little did I know that nostalgia was the only possible hope of a positive legacy for this debacle.

Yes, this is a kid's film (and I, who has passed the median mark of adulthood, am still largely a kid, myself), but that label can hardly account for the shoddy production values and atrocious puppetry the movie displays. "Atrocious ... Read More

VHS : Mighty Aphrodite
Mighty Aphrodite (1995) won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress for Mira Sorvino, and a nomination for Best Original Screenplay for Woody Allen. Sorvino, the Harvard educated daughter of actor Paul Sorvino, plays a squeaky-voiced, potty mouth hooker. Her character is none too bright, and though she aspires to be an actress, and has appeared in several pornographic films, she is terrible. Somewhat of a stretch, considering that Mira Sorvino is an Academy Award winner, and she graduated magna cum laude from Harvard in East Asian Studies. While at Harvard, she helped found the Harvard-Radcliffe Veritones, one of Harvard's premier co-ed a cappella groups, not to mention spending a year of study in Beijing. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, and also speaks French. The Oscar win is even more impressive ... Read More

VHS : Star Trek - The Original Series: The Cage (Pilot)
It's not often you get to own television history of what was to become a Star Trek phenom. Reading the back of the box "Airdate:Never shown on TV!" in red ink is something! Many people make comparisons between Pike and Kirk. Everyone says it's the acting of William Shatner vs. Jeffrey Hunter with Hunter's Pike seeming to think too much vs. Shatner's Kirk being more energetic. Shatner replaced Hunter so Kirk was written to be more energetic, have more fight scenes, being the womanizing captain in nearly every episode. Personally I think Jeffrey Hunter was cuter than Shatner was. There are two things prophetic about the Cage. Telosian illusion is comparable to Holodecks in Star Trek The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine which is interesting because no one could've predicted Star Trek would sell later until it did, and the scene ...
