This was a very good movie, although, as usually found-- it doesn't quite go along with the "original" version-- or what actually happened. Even so, it's a good movie and inspiring for people of all ages.

VHS : The Game
Great movie! Most of the reviews indicate that most people see this as a movie about a man who plays life changing wild game given as a gift from a brother who also benefited from playing the game. It's really about a rich guy who never understood why his father committed suicide at the age of 48. On his own 48th birthday he finds himself rich, but alone, miserable, depressed, and wondering how much he might be like his father, heading in the same direction (maybe toward suicide). His brother, knowing his rigid, responsible, analytical, no fun nature and that he's miserable in spite of his wealth, tries to help him by giving him an unusual but life changing gift, "The Game".

The story is great fun to follow, but the climactic ending is about how the man finally is driven to the brink ... Read More

The movie itself rates maybe 3 stars; but I could barely watch it because the video quality was horrible. Universal should be ashamed at the graininess of the picture. I was so upset that I had been "taken" that I had trouble concentrating on the story. Furthermore, the explosion of the vessel at the end of the movie was filmed in black and white. I understand why -- it allowed for the interspersement of actual historical footage into the movie -- but it took away from what would have been a spectacular visual effect in color. Of course, the video quality was so bad that maybe it would not have mattered. I'm really angry that I bought this clunker.

VHS : Lindbergh Kidnapping Case
It can be disturbing sometimes, to see how some sides of our society have deteriorated in the 1990's. In the 1930's the kidnapping/killing of American hero aviator Charles Lindberg's baby represents a low point in our humanity.

Telling this story is tough, particularly since the evidence was all circumstantial. Whereas the 1996 film "Crime of the Century" approaches the after-the-fact investigation, with a perspective that Bruno Hauptmann (executed for the crime) indeed may have been wrongfully convicted, this film (from 1976) pursues a more clinical, step-wise, investigative approach. The dictum here seems to be to substantiate the verdict within the bounds of historical accuracy.

Nice turns by Cliff DeYoung as Charles Lindbergh, and Anthony Hopkins for his portrayal of ... Read More

The China Syndrome (Special Edition)
Yet another movie from my Dad's collection. Not only is this movie one of the hardest hitting warnings about modern science, but one of the most entertaining thrillers which I have seen. Jane Fonda, is on the campaign trail again, this time, playing, Kimberly Wells, a budding TV reporter, who's desperate for the chance of that BIG SCOOP. Jack Godell (superbly played by Jack Lemmon), is worried that, the operations, at the cooling system, at the Ventana Nuclear Plant, have been, jeopardised by the falsification of construction reports. He fears that the plant, might not, contain itself, in an emergency, bringing about a melt-down and, theoritically, burning clear through the earth to China. Michael Douglas, produced the movie, and is excellent as the arrogant young ... Read More

I remember growing up with the pictures of glow in the dark condoms and body building seductresses floating around in my head from the time I was 14-19 y/o. This movie is Hilarious and (to me)tends to make more sense to aging delinquents who sort have been in those situations. What also stuck with me was how empty this character's life seemed to be even after all the sex and games (which, is every boy's definition of heaven). There's this one song in the movie that I've been trying to get my hands on for over 20 some odd years titled (I think) "Falling Out of Love." If anyone has any info on how I can finally put this search to rest it will be much appreciated. Good movie.. and, aquired taste.

A wonderful movie. Can be watched by the whole family but has some intense scenes that may be disturbing. The acting is great and the story is great.

A father and son's relationship is put to the test when the son finds out his father has been up to things that are so legal. In the end the boy has a choice to make.

F.I.S.T.
Between starring in the ROCKY movies, Sylvester Stallone, played another fighter, Johnny Kovack, in this film, which he also co-wrote. F.I.S.T stands for FEDERATION of INTER-STATE TRUCKKERS, a labor union, formed by Kovak, in the thirties, to overcome, company-stooges and the police. Stallone has to progress, from youth to middle-age, in the course of the story, and he does so effectively. Norman Jewison produced and directed. F.I.S.T concentrates on the corruption that goes, hand in hand, with the blind-struggle, for absolute power.

When I first saw this movie, I found it most enjoyable. Now in 2008, it has lost some of its humour. However, it is still a good & very watchable movie - but it is no londer a "great" movie.
