VHS : The Color of Friendship
Too many films about race relations and prejudice are either geared toward adults only or are so much about the past that they are too graphic and cannot be shown to children. This is not the case with The Color of Friendship. I am 43 years old and grew up in the south. I watch this movie over and over. The movie starts with both girls having preconceived ideas of what race the other should be based on the society and country that they live in. Early on they learn that they are wrong. This - along with so many other things - are lessons that adults too can learn from. This movie could easily be included as part of Black History Month - and it is actually shown on TV over and over during Black History Month - but could be included in media presentations at the local level if it were available ... VHS : Death Benefit
Peter Horton is most remembered for his role on the tv series THIRTY SOMETHING. His sincere and layered performance ignites this dark thriller. Based on a true story, Horton plays a corporate lawyer who is approached by a distressed woman who has just lost her daughter in an "accident." Horton offers to write a letter to the insurance company which is not paying the mother. This leads him into the mystery surrounding the girl's death, and once probing Horton begins to think that the girl was murdered for an insurance policy naming a married couple with whom she was staying. Turns out this couple might have done this before. Enter the late gifted actress Carrie Snodgress as Virginia McGinnis, affectionately known as "Ice Lady". The history of McGinnis' lurid past catches up with her and ... Read More

The plot, was interesting and a good idea. The details of the characters were a bit too sterotyped and over the top to equal the plot. Some of the behaviors of the characters were so overblown as to be unbelivable. Too bad. If the writters had spent a couple more weeks on the script this could have been a four star movie. As for the acting, Olivier Gruner and his female co-lead were actually quite good, considering their parts. My biggest complaint with the film is that it was shot in half light and shadows for 90% of the movie making it difficult to clearly follow the action. There was no reason for this, if they had shot it in regular lighting it would easily have added another one star to the review. Half the time you couldn't clearly see who was doing what to whom. Couldn't they afford the ... Read More

And boy does she get smacked around in this one! Plus, she gets naked!! Sort of a thrill-kill flick in a similar vein as Natural Born Killers in a loose way. Although this movie takes place Down Under. Basically, a good rule of thumb is that pretty much any movie Linda Blair appeared in post-1981 stinks, and the higher the billing she has, the stinkier the movie is. She stars in this one, and it was made way after 1981, so that ought to help one figure out how good it is.

VHS : Road to Galveston
This movie was sensational to say the least. Road To Galveston is the story of a woman who loses her husband and is driven to make a living for herself. The career that she chooses is one in which she provides care for Alzheimers patients. The touching thing about this movie is that it is extremely informative. It depicts three separate stages of this dreadful disease: the beginning, intermediate, and advanced stages. It also provides a clear understanding of the challenges that family members must endure as they watch their loved-one yeild to this disease. I recommend this movie to anyone who is faced with the unfortunate challenge of providing care to someone who has been diagnosed with Alzheimers. It will prepare you for the journey that, if understood, does not have to be so dreadful. In this ... Read More

Like everyone else is saying not the best but still entertainig for me.Brings me back to when I first saw it on video way back in 1985 and I enyoed it then prolly more so when I was 10 years old.Now that I bought this for 4.99 I can watch it in another 23 years with a few beers. I have to save 2 of the 5 stars for Mike Berryman which was part of my youth I also remember him from 'Weird Science' as one of the biker subhumans that crash the party. The gore levels pretty good too.

Excellent -- especially with a DVD player which has A-B repeat function. Long-enough segments to really enjoy. Not like their shred-and-randomly-splice videos.

This presentation is worth viewing and well casted. The story itself was heartwarming, and as usual, Jaclyn Smith gives a superb performance. It was a worthwhile purchase to add to our family's DVD library.
