VHS : Looking for Richard
I really enjoyed this film because it makes accessible one of the greatest written English stories to another generation on whom otherwise it would be lost. The Bard's play is a story written after the fact during the victorious Tudor era. Hence the creation of a dark hearted villain and his manipulative lust for power. Richard really was a brave king who died in battle at the head of his troops at Bosworth in 1485, the victorious Henry Tudor's family thus having the opportunity to enjoy Shakespeares re-write of history as they clung to power.
The villain is a true monster and has been the basis of many a similar character that Pacino himself has played in a more modern setting.

I studied the play at school and at first was baffled by the language. I persevered with it, ... Read More

VHS : The Thin Red Line
Malik's epic anti-war treatise is less effective on repeat and its pitch at the sublime is best savoured on big-screen theatre darkness to work its magic. Much of the necessary swatches of sky through tree canopy, macro nature, and shifting light over sussurating grasses, the ephphanies experienced from the Christ-like Caviezel used to counter the violence of combat terror, is lost on small format. Initially, the film moved me. Now, and with the pretentious,'New World', added to Malik's oeuvre, I side with those who experience tedium, while holding that it is an incomparably better film. The lack of character development is essential to the director's overview; their parts clearly serve the director's philosophy. Yet there are stunning cameo roles from Nolte, Penn, and Cavizel. It is one of the few war ... Read More

VHS : War at Home (1996)
A very well acted, heart wrenching movie. Kathy Bates delivers yet another brilliant performance in this film proving why she is one of Hollywood BEST actors. I thought her role as the mother was one of her best roles EVER! The story line was well thoughtout and believeable which is what I look for in a film. I won't go into the details of this movie (others have) but IF you want to watch a film where the acting is top rate and the story line so good that it seems real, check this movie out. It's a keeper.

Wow I'm the first person to review Shannen's movie "Almost Dead." And, I feel really honored. Anyhow, this is one of those B-movies that Shannen made in the mid-90's when she was the 90210 -Queen (not to mention the highest paid actress on coast-to-coast TV.) "Almost Dead" (at the time) wasn't a TV movie, it was actually a straight-to-video release. This 1994 movie is based on the book If She Only Knew by Lisa Jackman.

This is the main cast:
Shannen Doherty ~ Dr. Katherine Roshak
William R. Moses ~ Jim Schneider
Costas Mandylor ~ Dominic Delaserra
Steve Inwood ~ The Chief

I enjoy this movie very much because it's rather different from the movies that Shannen is now famous for. Although, I wouldn't necessarily describe "Almost Dead" as a "horror" movie, it certainly is very ... Read More

Simply put, a good movie. Speaking American English is different than England's English, so there's a language barrier. Despite this, I was able to relate, understand and enjoy this movie so much. It's one of those "feel good" movies that puts problems and troubles in their place - just a part of life.
