The US DVD have a severely cropped image (though not 4x3) compared to the english region 2 release, which offer the complete image in a very wide format, with lots of black top and bottom. In you don't have a 31 inch (or bigger) 16x9 TV set, this can look awkward, but if you do, get the UK region 2 release, if you can. The difference is dramatic! Believe me. I have both. I got the US version first, but as the resolution isn't enough in NTSC, I got the UK release as well, and what I got, and only recently discovered, was a much wider image.

The US image perfectly fill up the 16x9 screen, but...whoa, how much it leaves out!!!!

VHS : High Road to China
"High Road to China" is a classic. It had a great cast and good directing. The movie had action, adventure, comedy, danger, romance, and history. Tom Selleck is at his best. Bess Armstrong gives a stellar performance; as do Jack Weston, Wilford Brimley, et al. As with his movies, T.S's presence on the silver screen, doesn't overpower the other actors/actresses. It is a crime against good films not to view it, let alone not to own it !

Yes, this is a movie any horse lover should own. But the value goes well beyond the love of horses and to the issues of faith, family love and common decency. And what a great story about a horse who knows who really loves him as he tries at every turn to escape from his cruel trainer. Great ending that also demonstrates decency and ethics as the original owner sees what is going on and that the horse belongs where the girl and her family live. And the faith issue comes in because the girl had such faith that doing what was right would bring blessings. Blessings such as an end to a drought, her father being able to keep the money he got for selling the horse in order to buy seed, and blessings in knowing that good can win in the end.1o star

VHS : Mr Music
In this Bing Crosby plays an egotistic songwriter who hasn't written a musical for years. Charles Coburn is his producer. Bing's main problem is that he's lazy and would rather be golfing than writing so Charles hires a strict student (Nancy Olson) as his secretary. Other than the supporting role in Sunset Boulevard, this was of the few chances Nancy got to shine on the screen. She plays the stern girl effectively. Robert Stack is good as an annoying energetic jock who is interested in Nancy...only she's in love with Bing. Bing sings two versions of the song Love is Peculiar, one with Peggy Lee, another with Groucho Mark. It's interesting to see how the same song can be so different.
A good 2.5 movie, rounded up to 3.

follow along on a 2.5 hour trip through the mind of Lynch, who enjoys being strange just to be strange. why are we subjected to the first half hour of nonsense?

As a fan of the TV series I enjoyed seeing a much darker side of LeLand Palmer then we saw in the TV series. Ray Wise delivers a strong performance. Sorry not to see Lara Flynn Boyle as Donna, her replacement was not even close.

Although there is one rather foul word in the movie, for the most part, the movie is excellent. Great music, and a story that makes you think.

Movie making doesn't get any better than "Two Of A Kind!" This is one of the most deeply moving films I have ever had the the privilege to watch! The chemistry between Robby Benson and George Burns is magnificent! The acting is so phenomenal, I'm going to locate any film Robby Benson has ever made! I miss George Burns, and I have never seen him in a drama before! At first, I almost didn't recognize him! He was that good!

This is a story about two men on the fringes of American society: an elderly man in a nursing home who is suffering from a deep depression and at the same time, being over medicated; and his mildly retarded grandson, who also happens to be very clever and tough! He cuts through all the B.S. and gets the job done! He is truly a man!

"Two Of A Kind" will ... Read More

VHS : Monster and the Stripper
Contains miserable acting, outlandish story and a really cool montage of footage from New Orleans with seemingly endless, rambling narration about how you can get any type of booze, woman or substance, provided you have the right kind of coin. In the monster and the stripper, A sleazy stripjoint owner captures a swamp monster to get a competitive edge over the other stripjoints on Bourbon St. Mix in some beauty and the beast reference, as well as a cop who wants to morally cleanse the city of N.O. and you've got a good one!

I don't know anymore how many times I have watched this film over the years and it still makes me laugh out loud, shed a tear, and feel good all over. I hadn't seen it in a while so when I spotted a good deal on Amazon I snatched up the copy. Jan Handzlik is charming and mature in the role of Patrick. One of the most amusing scenes in the entire film occurs when the very young Patrick offers to mix a pitcher of martinis for his visiting stuffy trustee Dwight Babcock (Fred Clark). Not only does Patrick mix the perfect dry martini, but he engages Mr. Babcock in a thoroughly mature dissertation on the art of mixing the martini, finalizing his presentation with the exclamation that "Auntie Mame says always gently stir the cocktail, never shake, as that bruises the gin." Or something along those ... Read More
