This was one of Audrey's finest performance. She was moving, believable and heart touching. She is the finest actress to ever hit the big screen.

I like these shows where you jump back in time before computers, cordless phones, and pre surgery Liz Taylor. I just watched it for the first time on a hidden channel on cable. It amazes me that people are just as F&^%ed up in 1963. Everything is so timeless. I couldnt help but be sad watching the movie though. It pulls out that dark place in your soul that we try so hard to numb. You may need to open a window and let the sun in, and a bottle of antidepressants or ativan in hands reach watching it though. Or just make a fire, close the curtains and stave off suicide instead! Not a movie for christians even though there are catholics in it, just be warned. Peace out!

Although there is one rather foul word in the movie, for the most part, the movie is excellent. Great music, and a story that makes you think.

In a word, disappointing. Maybe I didn't read close enough, but I thought I was getting something that resembled Roger Waters. If that's what you are looking for, you should seriously consider buying something else.

VHS : The 39 Steps
This tremendously entertaining spy film from director Alfred Hitchcock's British period set the standard for all man-on-the-run films. Based on John Buchan's novel of an innocent Canadian tourist in Britain thrust unexpectedly into the world of spies, it's hard to find a better one than this.

Robert Donat is the Canadian, Richard Hanney, who gets more than he's bargained for when a woman named Annabella Smith (Lucie Mannheim) in fear for her life is killed in his flat after revealing to Hanney that she is a Secret Agent protecting the secrets of her country from a dangerous network of spies known only as the 39 Steps.

With a murder charge hanging over his head he must heed her words and make his way to Scotland and get to the bottom of the 39 Steps in order to clear his name. ... Read More

VHS : Passage to India
David Lean's first film in 14 years was to be his final - and was nominated for 11 Oscars, winning 2, (Supporting Actress Peggy Ashcroft and Music Score Maurice Jarre. An excellent adaptation of the E.M. Forster novel, purists may quibble with some changes Lean made in his screenplay. However, the recreation of 1920s India under British control is breathtakingly beautiful and it's an intriguing story. Along the way, the appalling British attitude towards the locals underlines the plot. The DVD has been remastered in high definition and seems to look better than its original theatrical release. Excellent bonus features include interviews with some of the first-rate cast and a contemporary interview with Lean. There is also a detailed audio-commentary from producer Richard Goodwin. Lean is the master director who ... Read More

I was guided by the customer reviews when I was searching for a treatment of this story that I became interested in and so I selected this production. It is splendid, with sumptuous period detail, fine acting, and the time to tell the story completely. Since this was a television production there are no subtitles to identify places, times or characters so you will have to pay close attention to identify who is who and what their role is. Edward was neither a hero or villain, just a human being who made a decision for himself that a lot of people still find incomprehensible. It's a fascinating story and well told in this production.

First of all,if you are a fan of John LeCarre`s work, then you enjoy that detailed, realistic and methodical "real world" espionage life that LeCarre sucks you into. This BBC mini-series is a wonderful adaptation of the novel and has much re-watch value.I recommend reading the book "A Perfect Spy" before viewing the mini-series...you will enjoy it that much more if you do!A great BBC television program that will also appeal to fans of British television and foreign film. In my opinion the mini-series comes in 3rd place behind the BBC classics: "Tinker,Tailor,Soldior,Spy" & "Smiley`s People". Fellow LeCarre fans will have a big smile on their face if they find boxed set under the Christmas tree!
Thank you for reading!

VHS : The Heat of the Day (Masterpiece Theatre)
This film stars Patricia Hodge, one of England's most beautiful and competent actresses, and Michael Gambon, one of the greats. Michael York plays a pivotal role but the film really belongs to Hodge and Gambon. I have been trying to secure a copy for my own library to no avail. If you ever have the opportunity to see the film don't let the chance pass you by. It is suspenseful to the very end. And even then the viewer isn't exactly sure how it ends. Hodge and Gambon play against each other in a way that you will never forget. The beauty and the "beast".
