VHS : Romeo + Juliet (1996)
I general like Shakespeare to be done in the time it was written for. However, I enjoy anything that Leonardo DiCaprio or Clair Dane does and totally enjoy this film eventhough it has been brought up to date. I give it four stars only because of this.

VHS : Nixon
As a filmmaker I appreciate Oliver Stone, his provactive, political, conspiratorial, curious, enigmatic, ominous visions of Americana are the stuff of high entertainment. Right or wrong, his works are wonderful cinema, it doesn't matter if his version is slanted to the left, it is a distinct vision and he is skilled at executing it.
Be that as it may Nixon is no JFK. Though both are named for presidents of the same era, one is about a murder and it's associate conspiracies-presented in staggering detail, while the other is a psychological Greek-styled high drama of a hugely important personality, flawed and potent, crumbling and explosive.
Anthony Hopkins disappears into the role, and as these things usually do, a great actor and a great part/material make the best of art. Hopkins ... Read More

when i saw this movie i said to myself this was as real of a story about a middle class family who got into the drug biz, live the life with money power and respect and then drug addiction caught up with them and show the vicious cycle of drugs in all level. why is this movie so good its because the realism of drugs and family struggle is all here as well as the acting performances are perfection especially from mira sorvino and the great michael imperioli. mike performance as angel is so good that its disappointing that he didnt get a oscar nomination for his brilliant performance as a realistic crack addicted. i do agree that this film should be shown to every high school health class and even in colleges, med school, police etc. this movies is up there as the best anti drug film ever thanks to ... Other reviews are right on the money. Brinks got kicked in the teeth cause they let their guard down. Some petty operators were able to boost the money becuase Brinks relied on their big name and past success to intimidate would-be crooks. I heard these guys lived on the money the rest of their lives without showing off. The film is great and the times are captured flawlessly in the sets and the language.

My father helped set up the stage, and also appeared in this movie, alot of my grandmothers things were used in this movie, several of which I have. I am looking for a vhs of the movie as my father passed away in Oct. of this year and we can't find the copy of the original vhs he had. It was a great old fashion movie.

VHS : My Mother's Secret Life
Movie is well scripted and well acted. Loni Anderson plays an over the hill prostitute, whose life is changed when her daughter comes to live with her. Movie gives an indepth look about the seedy side of prostitution. Loni gives a better than average performance and so does Amanda Wyss as Loni's daughter. Nice views of San Francisco in movie and Loni proves she doesn't have to get out her Social Security card for income. Fully recommend to viewers. A+

VHS : Houdini (1998)
This is a TV movie covering the career, life and afterlife of the illusionist Harry Houdini/Ehrich Weiss. It is a romanticized skeletal treatment, covering the basics of the man (raised in poverty, self taught magician, life long mother issues, medium debunker) without any real depth or showing anything new. It is a well done enough production, recreating some of Houdini's daring feats, and the acting is decent (and Johnathon Schaech certainly looks fit enough to pull off Houdini's escapes and high tolerance for pain) but ultimately it is a frame without a portrait, non revealing of the Ehrich behind the Harry.

Favorite Line: "I fell in love with Ehrich Weiss; I put up with Harry Houdini."

I've always enjoyed this film but never got around to buying it until now. George Burns' performance is excellent - humorous but with a point.
