I saw this in the theater in '75 and I've never forgotten it. An excellent reincarnation movie that feels very realistic!! Michael Sarrazin is a veteran actor but this is the film I remember him from the most (along with "Gumball Rally"! - I can't believe it's not yet on DVD.

VHS : Oscar Wilde's The Selfish Giant
I am struck by how, like me, many reviewers saw this when it was aired once in the 70s and it stuck with them 30+ years later. I managed to find this on VHS a few years ago at a local video store and was amazed at how well I had remembered it, including the beautiful song "Dreams Grow Older" that is played in the story. I hope someone will release it on DVD- it certainly deserves it!

VHS : Mary & Joseph: Story of Faith
I first saw this movie on television when I was a child. The story of the birth of Christ having always been my favorite in the Bible, I was thrilled to see it acted out. This movie gives you a 'what might have been' view of the lives of Mary and Joseph, something that the bible failed to give. Mary and Joseph where a young couple deeply in love, but the discovery of Mary's pregnency, plus Joseph's involvment with the Zelot's, almost drove them apart. We also get a look into the lives of Elizabeth and Zacarias, the parents of St. John. This movie give a completely human view of all characters in what is the most famous story in history.

VHS : Joshua Then & Now
It's probably been at least twenty years since I last saw this film. Yet just the thought of it makes me smile. It's a really wonderful "small" film, but as with anything with Alan Arkin in it, it's nothing but a pleasure to view.

It's criminal that this isn't available on DVD. I've been patiently waiting the better part of those twenty years to get it on DVD, to watch it again. Sigh. I guess I'll have to break down and buy a used VHS.

I loved "The Impressionists" DVD so much, I had to watch it two more times! As an artist myself, I was inspired, awestruck, humbled, and thoroughly captivated while watching this A&E two-DVD documentary of the art revolutionists (Renoir, Monet, Degas, Pissaro, and Morisot) of 19th century France who challenged the rules of traditionalism by painting from real life--and, in an avant-garde style--unheard of at a time when biblical and historical-themed art painted in the style of the old masters was the norm! Great biographies + beautiful artwork + history in the making =great entertainment--what more could you want?

6.Jack & His Friends starring: Paul Barry, Alison Fraser, Allen Garfield, Paul Hecht, Marlon Hoffman

I bought this at the request of a friend, knowing I wasn't fond of Mr. Stern. What I didn't expect was the friend asking me to please watch it with him. So, I did. It's typical self indulgent, I'll be a bad boy if I want to, nyah nyah Howard Stern stuff. If that's your thing, then you'll probably like it. Since it's NOT my thing....well, you get the picture.

This is a highly emotional and poignant production by the delightful Canadian film company, Devine Entertainment. A rich tapestry of art, history and human nature is woven together with forgiveness, responsibility and commitment. It provides children with a window into the world of the past and presents Jewish traditions in a positive way. It gives insite into the life of an artis with an appealing and sad story. Our kids commented: "The people were the story. It showed the Jews relating to Christians very well." "I liked Rembrandt. I liked it when he made faces." "I want to learn more about art." It's most suitable for 8 to 14-year-olds.

VHS : Last Call (2002)
This is a very accurate portrayal of Scott Fitzgerald's last days as he struggles to create the novel The Last Tycoon under the eye of a youthful secretary who basically must become his housewife. The story is not only about writing, but about a talented man's struggle to maintain his decency and integrity after totally blowing out his personality with a monstrous addiction to alcohol. He mainly succeeds, not always, but it is the sort of thing which ought to be shown at AA meetings.

Scott was eccentric to start with, of course. His institutionalized wife Zelda comes into his view in flashbacks that look like demented alcoholic dreams, in which Zelda is interestingly interpreted by Sissy Spacek. Nave Campbell's portrayal of the secretary is great, and Irons' inhabitation of Fitzgerald very shrewd, ... Read More

The characters in this movie demonstrate drinking, smoking, taking drugs (prescription) and promiscuity. I do none of these things, and after watching this movie I would be in no hurry to start.

I enjoyed the acting. I loved how the actors - all of them - portrayed their individual characters. I loved listening to the way they spoke their lines and timed their facial expressions: Outstanding talent.

A similar movie could be made without the excessive drinking and without the other "bad habits" and it would be a better film for many people. These 'depravities' were not the reasons why the movie succeeded. In fact, many will have to "suffer indignities" in order to appreciate the underlying humor.

Watching the characters act in group settings, and then alone or in one-on-one settings, ... Read More
