This is a 1962 attempt to be an accurate rendition of D day, based on Cornelius Ryan's book, "The Longest Day", when the allied forces of world war two crossed the English Channel and fought their way up the beaches of France. The whole film is of the events of that day. The list of popular actors playing the parts of the various countries and ethnicities of the time is too long to mention in this review. However Eddy Albert (a method actor) was quite believable and contributed much to the energy of this rendition. Be sure to see Eddy Albert again in uniform in "Teahouse of the August Moon" (1956.) And that little cutie Irina Demark was the girlfriend of the producer, Darryl F. Zanuck. You can tell this picture was remastered some time recently as it looks as crisp ... Read More

Being a huge Paul Anka fan, (seeing him perform live over a dozen times)this DVD does not dissapoint. One Unique think about Mr. Anka is that his songs have "Evolved" over time and while still keeping their original feel, Paul has added new "flavors" to them. Some Outstanding performances on this DVD include a very touching duet with his Daughter (Do I love You) and a very warm sounding "Papa" as well as great rockin' versions of "She's a Lady" (sorry Tom, but Paul owns this one!) and two great Amercian tribute songs, "The Longest Day" and " Freedom". Both songs played with heartfelt emotion and soul. Paul Anka has withstood the test of time and has earned a well deserved place in musical history as one of the greatest "singer/songwriters" of modern times. It's always amazed me how director Charles F. Haas managed to orchestrate the outstanding cast that he had for _Girls Town_. The amount of talent assembled for this low-budget classic is virtually unprecedented: Mamie Van Doren, Mel Torme, Ray Anthony (Mamie's real life husband during filming), Paul Anka, Gloria Talbott, Elinor Donahue, Gigi Perreau and The Platters. Mamie Van Doren's portrayal of trash-talking Silver Morgan is a "crazy, cool, fantabulous" camp classic. Van Doren's voluptuous figure is enhanced with push-up bras and padded panty girdles before it is poured into a series of revealing outfits. There's no doubt about it -- this girl puts out! This is a fun film that was released to relative obscurity, but is a hidden gem. The film centers on the events surrounding a mob boss who is getting out of the looney bin and all of the power plays surrounding him. Great acting by the entire cast. The director does an excellent job of building a quirky mob world filled with great characters such as Sleepy Joe and Brass Balls Ben London. This movie has been released under two titles even here in the states, I have a copy of the vhs under the other title which was Trigger Happy. Ironically both titles come from the same line in the movie. This is one of my top picks for those who like mobster movies, funny movies or movies that are just plain fun.
