This is a great DVD with the extra scenes in it bringing the book more fully to life Don't get me wrong I adored the original but this is better. I think the music is fine and not at all distracting. Highly recommended.

VHS : Tall Tale: Unbelievable Adventure
TALL TALE has the potential to be an excellent film. The possibilities of a tall tale adventure with Pecos Bill, Calamity Jane, Paul Bunyan, and John Henry should be great. This isn't.
The two stars I gave it are for two performances that head and pretty good cast and the music by Randy Edelmen (the genius behind GETTYSBURG's score). Patrick Swayze is an excellent actor, and now I fully appreciate his ability to turn a complete dud of a role into gold. He takes the role of Pecos, a shallow character, and steals every moment onscreen. When he flies in and out of his tornado, you don't even glance at the larger-than-life twister because you're mesmorized by Swayze. He's excellent.
The other good acting is by Stephen Lang (also from GETTYSBURG) in a brief role as the hero's dad. The music is ... Read More

VHS : To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything
To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar is a cute and funny film about three drag queens who want to be legends. Patrick Swayze is the prettiest man/woman ever! Wesley Snipes, well he isn't so graceful. This is a great buddy buddy flick, check it out sometime.

This movie is entertaining from the aspect that there are soo many big named actors in the movie showcased early in their careers. The plot line is thin at best and the acting in parts are just as good. The only reason I rated this movie soo high, is I lived where it was filmed and was able to see all the actors shooting scenes throughout town. For me and my town it is a cult classic as we recognize each location and scene they are at. Overall, the movie is interesting to see once for the actors strictly.

This bloodless production's period costume design, cars, TV newscasts and popular music do nothing to make it seem like anything other than a product of this torpid decade; you can't sell a counterfeit 1988 to a fledgling of that enormous, tacky era. If I want '80s teen angst or surrealism, I'll consult the genuine article and watch some old David Lynch or John Hughes films (separately), all of which have what this film doesn't: character, substance and zeitgeist without all the hokey pretension of this boring, distended exercise.

The novelty of this movie's time-travel plot gimmick can't sustain its numerous uninspired scenarios, complete dearth of appealing and interesting characters, vast array of moronic clichés and Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is surely the most irritating actress in recent memory.

I must shamefully admit, I purchased this movie simply to gaze at Keanu's loveliness. The man is beautiful!

VHS : Ghost (1990)
Somewhere between good and bad lies `Ghost', a film that has enough working for it to offset the elements working against it, but in the end can't really be labeled as a `good' film or a `bad' one. I feel somewhat torn as to my response towards `Ghost' because the film is essentially two films, one of which works far greater than the other. There is a love story and a murder mystery, and the love story (which ends up taking a back seat to the murder mystery) is in all actuality the most impressive and touching part of the story. The murder mystery should have been stripped from the screenplay in my opinion, especially since it is obvious even before Sam is killed who exactly is going to have it done and why.

So, the film centers on Sam and Molly, an attractive couple who are deep in love (even if Sam ... Read More

Dean Youngblood (Rob Lowe) may be the fastest skater on the ice, but when he is awarded a place on a junior-league ice-hockey team, he soon comes to realize that success at hockey isn't just about skill, it's also about being able to beat the c**p out of the opposition.

I do not like playing sports, I do not like watching sports and generally, I do not like watching movies about sports. However, "Youngblood" is one of my favourite movies of all time. I saw this movie because I am a huge fan of Rob Lowe and I surprised myself by actually enjoying it. I'm not sure if this film is meant to be a comedy or not, but I found this film to be absolutely hilarious in a so-bad-it's-funny kind of way, in particular all the scenes on the ice. This is not so much a film about people playing hockey, but a film about grown ... Read More

VHS : Uncommon Valor
I feel this is Gene Hackman at his best as an actor. It had one hundreth or less the budget of "Saving Private Ryan," "Platoon" and many others, but it scored just as high in the thought-provoking and action departments. Based on a true story about a retired officer that is determined to go find his MIA son in Laos, he recruits hand-picked Viet Nam vets to assist him in his quest. Where does hardened soldier and tender father separate? Gene shows us both. Great acting by Hackman, Robert Stack (Untouchables, Unsolved Mysteries) Patrick Swayzee and even by Randall "Tex" Cobb.
