VHS : Love Crimes (Unrated Edition)
There are erotic thrillers that succeed in their genre (e.g. Basic Instinct, Jade), but this one felt awkward and contrived. I think its producers were trying to ride on the coat tails of the immensely popular Basic Instinct by attracting some of that audience. I know that's why I and friends went to see it in theatres. But we were disappointed, both in the story and the acting.
I think Sean Young is very attractive, from the first time I saw her in Dune and then in No Way Out, but her nude scenes in this film were embarrassing. I agree with someone else who said her proportions were much better in Ace Ventura and, I might add, Dr. Jeckyll and Ms. Hyde. She may have had some work done.
I admit I haven't yet seen the unrated version so it might change my opinions.

I'm a Harrison fan, already owned the movie on DVD. After reading the Blu-ray reviews and a cheap price on sale at Amazon I could help but add this to my new Blu-Ray collection. The menu system for the movie is not as good as some Blu-Ray movies I have. Not sure why, it would frezze my unit if I tried to change the sound, etc. from the opening menu. As I can access the menu once the movie is playing that worked fine. The sound and picture were great considering how old this film is. It was nice to watch it again in Blu-ray on a HD projector and see the improvement over the regular DVD.

Some time ago I have watched this movie not once and not even twice. But I want to go back to watching it over again. Why? I've lived the story myself. It is not a fiction. It could be reality. And I believe there are many stories untold that are even more frightening. There are truly people out there who hide their persona well. And there are women out there for real who for their own reason get involved with individuals like those. I believe this movie was empowering to all open-minded people who can see beyond, who can empathize, who do not label or prejudge and who are on their journey of self-discovery. We all go through different experiences for a reason to learn and teach. Some people call it fate, some people call it a coincidence but always it ends with the kind of choices we make ... Read More

VHS : Lawnmower Man 2 - Jobe's War
Sometime after the explosion in the original, Jobe is saved and forced to help Government-type people with Virtual Reality. Peter asks Dr. Benjamin Trace to help him with a Chiron Chip before Jobe uses it for evil. If they had used Jeff Fahey from the original, it might have been better, but if you really want to watch it, you might like THE LAWNMOWER MAN 2!!!

Informative, educational. An interesting story that is pretty much the way it happened. A look into the world that laid the cornerstone for ours. Good actors that nobody ever heard of. No wonder it bombed. Borrow $2 from somebody and get it used from Amazon.

History buffs may burst a blood vessel at my 3 stars; and truly I'd like to split it right down the middle at 2 1/2 stars. Amazons and Gladiators is eye candy, nothing more. The feminist message of the words is belied by the costuming and every visual detail of the film, and historically it's a total mess--it takes place in 60 A.D., and at the end the voice over says something like "and the Empire would soon fall." Yeah, soon, where soon means some 400 years later; don't hold your breath. (Another reviewer called out "Caesar's" existence in 60 AD--but Caesar was a title and so there certainly would be A Caesar, although not Julius Caesar.) But as another reviewer has pointed out, you don't see a movie called Amazons and Gladiators and expect historical accuracy! Apparently what you DO see it ... Read More

VHS : Soft Deceit
The title of this film is taken from lines in William Blake's "Eternity" that, along with some production characteristics, are of top-flight quality, unfortunately impeded, as too often is the case, by a screenplay filled with incident and dialogue that are not slightly believable at any point. The plot of the Canadian made picture relates of Adam Trent (Patrick Bergin) who, with two accomplices, relieves a diocesan vault of over six million dollars in laundered organized crime funds, but despite his arrest and sentencing, Adam refuses to reveal the location of the cash, resulting in a politically and mob motivated police organized prison break supervised by undercover detective Anne Fowler (Kate Vernon), the object of which is for Trent to lead authorities to the loot; however, Anne naturally falls in love with Adam, ... VHS : Frankenstein
I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast on TNT in 1993. I recently rented it and remembered how good it was all over again. My favorite film version of Frankenstein is the 1931 version with Boris Karloff. Of the modern versions, I like the Kenneth Branaugh (1994) version and this one. This version is more faithful to the Mary Shelley novel than most other versions. Randy Quaid was magnificent as the monster, and in my opinion did a better job than Robert De Niro in the 1994 version. This film shows what a serious and gifted actor Quaid can be. The major difference from the novel is the creation of the creature. Mary Shelley never actually said that electricity brought the creature to life but she did say that the creature was stitched together from corpses. In this film, Frankenstein constructs a tank filled ... Read More
