VHS : Abbott & Costello: Hit the Ice
Made at the height of Bud and Lou's popularity, "Hit the Ice" is a very fun time for fans. Set during winter in Sun Valley, there are some great routines mixed with some of their best slapstick in this one.

Flash (Abbott) and Tubby (Costello) are a couple of photographers who get duped into helping with a bank heist when a gangster named Silky (Sheldon Leonard) thinks they're the two guns he's sent for. Of course the boys have to find the real crooks to avoid jail and it's off to the slopes in Sun Valley. Patrick Knowles is a doctor being duped by Silky and Elyse Knox is the nurse who suspects something is amiss and tries to warn him.

Once in Sun Valley, Tubby goes goofy about lovely Marcia (Ginny Simms). Simms was very popular during the early 1940's and does a lovely ... Read More

VHS : Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman
Before there was Freddy Vs Jason there was Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man. I suppose it was only fitting this would happen sooner or later seeing as Universal was behind the Monster movies so why not take advantage of it? This was the first of the crossover movies and quite possibly the best although this movie is far from perfect and does have its fair share of flaws.

Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein are two of the greatest horror flicks ever made due to the brilliant performance by Boris Karloff and the direction by James Whale, but after Whale left the series Son of Frankenstein just didn't fully work, while I think the movie was overall good and Karloff was solid he wasn't used the way he was in the past two and he was wise to leave the series afterwards and that's where ... VHS : The Adventures of Robin Hood
Far from the earth-shattering restoration we were promised in this BluRay edition, this is just another direct port to BluRay from DVD.

The audio is still mono, a major disappointment. Still a great movie, but Warner Brothers didn't deliver the BluRay product they promised.

Those of us with upconverting players will get quality every bit as good from the plain old DVD version.

VHS : Charge of the Light Brigade
For some reason, THE CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE (directed in 1936 by Michael Curtiz) is always forgotten when people talk about Errol Flynn's movies. It's one of the all-time greats for Flynn, in which he plays gallant Major Vickers, an officer in the 27th Lancers, whose personal story entwines with the horrors of the Crimean War.

Major Geoffrey Vickers (Errol Flynn) is engaged to lovely Elsa Campbell (Olivia de Havilland), the daughter of one of his superiors (Donald Crisp). Unbeknowst to Geoffrey, Elsa has also fallen in love with his younger brother Perry (Patric Knowles). This stormy love triangle is set against the violent conflict in the Crimean. When the British outpost of Chukoti is stormed and all the occupants massacred by the bloodthirsty forces of Surat Khan (C. Henry Gordon), ... Read More

VHS : Another Thin Man
Nick and Nora Charles (William Powell and Myrna Loy) are back in New York with their almost one year old son. They haven't even had a chance to unpack when they are invited, summoned really, to the Long Island estate of Colonel MacFay (C. Aubrey Smith). MacFay was the partner of Nora's late father and still manages her estate.

When they arrive, they discover that MacFay is convinced he is about to be murdered. He's been receiving threats from Phil Church (Sheldon Leonard), an ex employee who blames MacFay for the decade he spent in jail. With all kinds of weird things happening around the estate, Nick is inclined to take the threat seriously. Unfortunately, the colonel is indeed killed, and Phil vanishes. Did he do it? What's really going on?

This is the third in the series, ... Read More

VHS : Wolf Man (1941)
Ok, this is another Universal monster movie, but an excellent one! The money spent on this production was pretty hefty. Claude Rains, Ralph Bellamy, Lon Chaney Jr. and others. Wow! Poor Lon Chaney Jr. loves a girl but gets attacked by a wolf. Poor guy, he ends up having some really sleepless nights when a full moon appears. What to do? Maybe Bela Legosi as a gypsy can help? Or that lady gypsy, does she know anything?

Fun film to watch. I love the old B&W films so this was right up my alley. This is the first movie I have seen where Lucille Ball was so young and I thought she was beautiful. The year was 1939 so it was before she met Desi. One thing that struck about this film is that everyone, even the murderer HAD MANNERS. They were decent to the people they met, not like the world today. The screenplay is by Dalton Trumbo (before he was blacklisted by Hollywood) and is rather good (written almost 70 years ago). I hope they produce a DVD of this film. Hey Techncolor Tessey, you never looked more lovely!!!! check it out
