VHS : 12 Angry Men
Watching this 1997 version of 12 ANGRY MEN recently, I was struck by the fact that four of the 12 actors in key roles here have since passed away. That has absolutely nothing to do with the film's quality, of course (or nothing directly to do with it), but it is striking that key members of this impressive cast--and of course, I'm referring to Jack Lemmon, George C. Scott, Hume Cronyn and Ossie Davis-- have gone on to that jury box in the sky.

As I say, the fact that these great actors have all died within the past decade is not a direct reflection on the film itself. But it does raise at least one issue that a previous reviewer has noted: namely, the question of the cast's relative age in comparison to the cast of the 1957 classic movie version. Jack Lemmon was 72 when he played ... Read More

VHS : Stephen King's The Stand (Boxed Set)
The Stand is impressive in many ways possible! I know the movie is 6 hours in length put it pulled me in after the first episode. It had a great apocalyptic opening where it can possibly happen in real life with the virus and all. The second half jumps into this supernatural realm where people dare not go and I find that fascinating. I got this movie from a 5 movie collection by Artisan (also had Cujo, Golden Years, The Langoliers, and Thinner) and I received the 2-disc version which is good but its probably better than the flipper disc. I despise flipper discs because they get scratched and broken so easily that its not funny. Lucky me I guess. This would be a great DVD title to come out on Blu-Ray. Imagine the entire 6-hour film on one disc with no flipping or changing. The Golden Years was an ... Read More

VHS : Ernest Green Story
The Little Rock Nine tryed in September 1957 to implement the Supreme Court decision of Brown vs. Board of Education. What follows was nine months of chaos, hatred, and courage that would forever change those involved, especially Ernest Green, the only senior. He would eventually become Assistant Secretary of Labor to Jimmy Carter. What he learned in that time was more valuable than any other experience he had. Hear him as he narrates the story, and see the obstacles he had to overcome. This movie also takes a look at the bigotry all nine students faced, and is a testiment to some of the lowest behavior the white race has ever participated in. It is also a testiment to the theory of non-violence in practice, and how one person's fight for what is right can truly make people question and change their beliefs. ... Read More

What an incredible movie! My father was the first to get me hooked on this movie, and its random storyline has enthralled me ever since. More fable than true story, it still manages to be humorous, random, and heartfelt all at once. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan have their usual chemistry, leading this film to be one that will stay in the heart.

Who would have ever thought that two really old guys could be so outrageously funny. Sorry, but now that they're gone, I can't think of anyone (or two) who could compare to this team. There're so many reasons I love this movie, it's touching, snowy, and funny as hell.

One of my favorite scenes is where Max and John try to clean up and dress to impress Ariel the former Berkeley professor, to the tune "I'm Too Sexy." Too funny. And I nearly fell off my chair laughing when John was trying to watch television and kept losing the channel because Max was changing the channels on him with his remote from his own house! There are so many funny scenes, it's amazing. I never get tired of watching this movie. It's a good film to watch when you're feeling low because you WILL laugh.Looks like Chuck's taking old ...
