VHS : Circle of Two (1980)
I got this movie in a 10 pack. This film pays for the whole thing! Burton is excellent! No over acting; very realistic. It may just be his best role! Tatum is very good. Young girls CAN be very smart. I love the line: robbing the cradle, robbing the grave (something like that). I like the realism of all the characters. Hey, it's an old guy's best daydream, like me. Let's see, he was 60; she was almost 16. I am 63, so maybe I have a chance at a 19 year old? But I am not a famous artist, and I don't look like Burton. Back to the movie. It starts out kinda slow--but with some nice dialogue--and gets more interesting towards the end. I really think they could have gotten away with a full nude Tatum, instead of hiding her lower part behind the chair. It would have not offended anyone and made it ... Read More

Let's Go to Antigonish
"Margaret's Museum is a quirky little independent Canadian film made over 10 years ago, featuring an impressive performance by Helena Bonham Carter (trying to do something other than English period pieces) as the title character. Carter is one of the most talented contemporary actresses and her failure to become a major star is a bit of a puzzle.

The film's obscurity is not such a puzzle, it contains just enough wry humor and off-kilter behavior to offend those who take its political message seriously and not enough to become a cult classic. The producers should have amped up the weirdness level a bit.

It will remind viewers of "New Waterford Girl", not just because both were filmed in Nova Scotia, but because the heroines are similar as is ... Read More

I saw this movie to see Colleen and Megan in a very different role from 'Anne of Green Gables'... well I was not dissapointed... lol The story felt very real... it was sad and depressing... but liked the end. The acting abilities of these two women sure impressed me though... especially Megan's performance in several scenes. I gave this 4 stars only because the sound of the movie...it wasn't very good and sometimes I had to turn up the volume to catch what they were saying. I loved the music playing at the beginning! :)

Don Johnson plays a dangerous sociopath who enjoys planning the execution of the women he uses while they think they are using him. He lures a beautiful well connected attorney into defending him against a murder charge by creating evidence that links her to the crime.
So here's the review: Johnson delivers a stunning portrayal of a man who is barely sane but perfectly effective in his manipulations of people, specifically women. Every scene in which he reveals his character is riveting in its complexity. Without Johnson this is an entertaining movie with a competent cast. But Johnson's perfomance is a master class in acting. If you want to see how it's done, get the DVD.

VHS : Meatballs
This should be or perhaps it is a cult classic. This is one of my favorite older movies. Bill Murray while he's no super funny in Meatballs, his humor shines along with the cast of mostly non-stars. Harvey Atkins is the Camp Director Morty (Not Mickey!) Melnick who tries to keep order at Camp North Star while at the same time his counselors and counselors-in-training (CIT's for short) keep their hormones and hijinks in check. Naturally the leader of his counselors on the male side is Tripper Harris (Bill Murray) and on the female side you have Roxanne who Trip loves but the feeling isn't mutual. Throw in the fact that Morty/Mickey constantly finds himself waking up in unpleasant fashion. Whether it's high on a tree (including his side table with his alarm clock) or floating on a raft on a lake out in the middle ... Read More

Did this movie have a point? I really don't think it did. Its unbriphilous director, Norman Jewison, seemed to try his best to make something of what he had to work with, but even a talent-oozing cast and a picturesque setting couldn't do much to deliver on what had sounded to me like an intriguing tale. Oh, well, maybe other people saw the emperor's clothes but I just saw his doodle.
