VHS : Tarzan (Walt Disney)
Somewhere in 2000, Disney quietly launched a special 2 disc collector's edition of "Tarzan" the same year as its paltry one disc edition. For some reason it advertised the one disc version heavily, which is a shame because the collector's edition is a gem not to be missed by fans. Unfortunately I didn't know about it until years after its release, and by then it was out of print, hard to find, and expensive. Luckily I found a copy that was decently priced, and was finally able to get my hands on this remarkable edition. I see this as the "Tarzan" DVD for adults: instead of cartoony illustrations on the jacket, there's Glen Keane's famous sketch of Tarzan peering at you with those intense eyes. The menus are extremely well designed and the commentaries are entertaining and insightful. It's ... Read More

I remember seeing this movie when I was very young, and while it's not the best animated film I've ever seen, it's certainly not the worst. The animation is satisfactory, and Freddie IS rather handsome and charming for a frog. Everyone has their own opinion about this film, of course, but maybe you negative critics out there are being just a wee bit too harsh. There are movies out there that are far worse than this one, you know.

This movie does have a refreshing philosophical perspective, but it's not executed well. A lot of the dialogue is plodding or obvious. The characters have no chemistry, relationship twists seem surreal, and the waste and extravagance is enormous for so called "enlightened" souls.
The movie is too long and repetitive and ultimately predictable.

My Grandaughter thought this was wonderful. We watched six times. She liked the fact that it was a real little girl and would like more Madelines just like this one

I originally saw this in theaters as a kid and hadn't really seen it since, except once in a great while in the last several years. At the time I didn't realize it was based on a series of books, but its still a good movie. However I must point out that it is not for young kids, due to some parts in the movie. Other than that, its a great find and worth every penny. Good for Halloween, as it also has the Donald Duck short cartoon, Trick and Treat.

I saw this marvelous movie in the theater in Houston when it was first released.

Jeannette Clift George and the rest of the cast did an outstanding job portraying this true, compelling story. Ms. George has since become an accomplished playwright and operates Grace Theater in Houston, TX.

Readers of the book know from the outset Corrie Ten Boom survived to help write the book but it's such an intriguing journey to get there. The authors include numerous jewels along the way, stories that stick with the reader long after the book is back on the shelf: the train ticket held by her father until the perfect time, the test of faith by not lying about family hiding under the kitchen table, the fleas having a purpose, the heartbreak of the love of her life marrying someone ... What makes this horse movie extra special is that it is based on a true story & one of the three arabian stallions that made such a profound influence on the thoroughbred-it changed the breed forever. This film also shows the special bond between a boy & his horse. People of all ages will love this movie. I hope it comes out on Disc some day soon.

I should acknowledge, first of all, that this is probably my favorite of Shakespeare's plays; therefore, I'm inclined to be biased. Still, I loved this movie.

In particular, I was delighted to see Ben Kingsley as Feste the Jester and was impressed that he could sing so well.

I also really enjoyed the scenes wherein Olivia (Helena Bonham Carter) is being wooed by Viola (Imogen Stubbs) for the Duke (Toby Stephens). I liked the banter and the irony of the first scene in particular.

As one reviewer pointed out, the plight of the sea turtles -- fully grown and just swimming in circles in a much-too-small tank -- is a metaphor for the condition of the two main protagonists, who are middle-aged and trapped in the unfulfilling lives they have become used to. They hatch a plot to release the turtles back into the open sea, and in the process begin their own journey. If you hate this film, you are either extremely young, extremely fortunate, or have never felt the frustration of being in a rut. This is an utterly delightful film in my opinion, because it omits explosions and special effects and fast cars and focuses on lives people actually live -- and with a happy ending, too. Excellent on all accounts, and it definitely needs to be put on DVD.
