VHS : A Little Princess - Wonderworks Family Movie
This is definately the best movie adaption of "A Little Princess." I love this version so much because it is so true to the book, and I still have my VHS tape even though I don't own a VHS player anymore. It is such a shame that this adaption has not yet been put to DVD...and the big question is why??? Can't Wonderworks get on that ASAP!? Hello! A lot of people would love it and would buy it, what's the problem?!

VHS : The Burning Season - The Chico Mendes Story
My only reason for seeing this film is because Luis Guzman is in it.
Raul Julia plays "Chico Mendes" who tried to save his people in the Amazon Rainforest. A story that needed to be told, but this film is overlong and slow-moving.
I do believe the rainforests should be saved and destroying them should be stopped.
Instead of decreasing them the forests should be expanded.
The rainforests are beneficial to our weather. Their is wildlife there and flowers used for medical research and medicine that can not be found anywhere else.
What would happen if land was just roads, concrete, buildings and dessert. I think if a patch of unhistoric dessert is bare, just plant trees there. It would look nicer than a vacant lot. it is trees that tranform our air ... Read More

For some reason there is a huge circle of film snobs (cinaphiles, movie buffs) who absolutely hate this film. I can understand to an extent, but not seeing the films central glistening facet is to ignore what is right in front of your eyes. Yes, even the vilest of movie critics; even someone who detests everything that is so Hollywood about Steven Spielberg will tell you that Christian Bale delivers quite possibly the finest child acting performance of all time.

That said; I don't hate this movie.

The film tells the story of young Jamie Graham, a twelve-year-old British boy living with his family in China. During World War II Jamie is separated from his family and finds himself in an interment camp struggling to survive in a world that was once so familiar but is now ... Read More

VHS : A Passage To India (original edition)
This is a magnificent and exquisitely wrought film, well nuanced and faithful in its adaptation of E.M. Forster's classic novel of the same name. Director David Lean, who had previously directed such cinematic triumphs as "Bridge on the River Kwai" and "Lawrence of Arabia", outdid himself with this film, which was nominated for eleven Academy Awards and for which Peggy Ashcroft won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, as did Maurice Jarre for Best Score.

Set in 1928 colonial India, it is a story about racism and love. A headstrong and adventurous Englishwoman, Adela Quested (Judy Davis) travels to India to meet her fiance. She is accompanied on her journey by her fiance's elderly mother, Mrs. Moore (Peggy Ashcroft), a lovely and kindly woman who, upon reaching India, is appalled ... Read More

I thoroughly enjoyed this, very much like Mountains Of The Moon. Jack Thompson & Nigel Havers star as Burke & Wills, and their co-star is some of the more desolate landscapes of Australia.

VHS : Passage to India
David Lean's first film in 14 years was to be his final - and was nominated for 11 Oscars, winning 2, (Supporting Actress Peggy Ashcroft and Music Score Maurice Jarre. An excellent adaptation of the E.M. Forster novel, purists may quibble with some changes Lean made in his screenplay. However, the recreation of 1920s India under British control is breathtakingly beautiful and it's an intriguing story. Along the way, the appalling British attitude towards the locals underlines the plot. The DVD has been remastered in high definition and seems to look better than its original theatrical release. Excellent bonus features include interviews with some of the first-rate cast and a contemporary interview with Lean. There is also a detailed audio-commentary from producer Richard Goodwin. Lean is the master ... Read More

VHS : Catherine Cookson's the Glass Virgin (2pc)
--This review contains spoilers---

Glass Virgin is about a young heiress who discovers that she is the daughter of her father's mistress. After this secret is revealed; she runs away with the groom, a man named Mendoza and takes up a life in service.

This movie was okay, but I felt it wasn't as good as other films of Cookson's books. The actor who played Mendoza seemed a wee bit too old, and unfit to be the dashing hero he was portrayed as being. I also felt the heroine could've handled her situation a trifle better, as she was too quick to believe what others tell her (such as her mother abandoning her to her fate, etc), and too quick to give up her life, to run away.

I prefer heroines who use their brains to help themselves and the heroine of Glass Virgin was often ... Read More

VHS : Lie Down With Lions Miniseries
A Ken Follet book brought to life by Timothy Dalton & Omar Sharif! It even features location filming! Not bad for a budget film, and lots of fun too! If you can overlook some of these bad reviews here, and make up your own mind you should like this. Especially if you area James Bond fan, and would like to see a good modern spy action movie.

series very good abd received in good condition.
I would also like to say that the video I purchased Hit the Deck, was also received in very good condition and very promptly, unlike some earlier videos which were pretty poor condition.
