VHS : Rebecca
Great movie adaptation of Daphne du Maurier novel, funny at times, but tragic and surreal. This is the kind of movie Hollywood forgot how to make a long time ago, where you can just get caught up in a mesmerizing story. I can't think of another story where an unseen character plays a more important role.

"A full, ripe ear of emotion and enjoyment"

-New York Herald Tribune

Bette Davis gives a sharp, vital interpretation of Miss Moffat(the spinster teacher fighting to educate the poor children of a Welsh mining village)...by remaining true to its legitimate stage counterpart," adds the Hearld Tribune.

The story, based on Emlyn Williams' autobiographical play, focuses on the relationship between Miss Moffat and her gifted young prodigy from the mines, Morgan Evans (John Dall). "Consumed by inward fire, by the sheer joy of imparting knowledge" (London Picture Post), she molds him into a legitimate candidate for an Oxford scholarship in the remarkably short span of two years. Despite the disaster of Morgan's seduction by trouble-making Bessie (Joan Lorring), the ... Read More

VHS : Chocolate Soldier
Nobody is better than Jeanette Macdonald to be teamed with Nelson Eddy, but Rise Stevens did a pretty good job. She is beautiful and sings pretty
good...good enough to be with Nelson Eddy for the Chocolate Soldier. There
is music, drama, great costumes and nice sets. The story flows pretty
good and is pleasant to the end. Another movie that ive seen in the past
as a child that has contributed to the music surrounding me in my Adult
world. A keeper..enjoy.

I remember watching this film when i was 9 or 10 back in the late 50's or early 60's after mt father went to work and my mom was asleep. There have been three or four spin offs to this great film that don't even come close.I don't no for sure but it seems that they left something out of this makeover. It doesn't matter this is a five star movie, that i rated four because i was stupid and hit the four star and it won't let me change me it.

VHS : Charge of the Light Brigade
For some reason, THE CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE (directed in 1936 by Michael Curtiz) is always forgotten when people talk about Errol Flynn's movies. It's one of the all-time greats for Flynn, in which he plays gallant Major Vickers, an officer in the 27th Lancers, whose personal story entwines with the horrors of the Crimean War.

Major Geoffrey Vickers (Errol Flynn) is engaged to lovely Elsa Campbell (Olivia de Havilland), the daughter of one of his superiors (Donald Crisp). Unbeknowst to Geoffrey, Elsa has also fallen in love with his younger brother Perry (Patric Knowles). This stormy love triangle is set against the violent conflict in the Crimean. When the British outpost of Chukoti is stormed and all the occupants massacred by the bloodthirsty forces of Surat Khan (C. Henry Gordon), Geoffrey and Elsa narrowly escape with their lives. Geoffrey ... Read More

I've enjoyed watching the old Sherlock Holmes movies since I was 17. They use to be on every Sunday at noon and I would watch them. When they went to Video and DVD, I couldn't miss the opportunity. I love watching maybe three or so at a time.

Basil Rathbone was born for the role and watching all 14 will prove it.
