It arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The condition was ok, not great but ok. It did appear as if it came from a video rental company which was a bit troubling. All in all it was an ok experience although I think for the condition a bit overpriced.

Both Borders and Barnes and Noble now carry a widescreen version of Picnic:

http://video.barnesandnoble.com/DVD/Picnic/William-Holden/e/043396828797/?itm=4

Widescreen on one side, fullscreen on the other. It says "Columbia Classics" across the top of the package.

I wish Amazon would carry this version, as I don't want to open a new account at one of those other places just for one item.

I remember America's most stellar talents showing their best stuff at this, perhaps the greatest soul special ever. From Michael Jackson to Marvin Gaye to Smokey Robinson -- all the greats were there and there is no doubt none of them was going to be upstaged by the others.

But one performance stopped the show. That was Ladysmith Black Mambazo's. Their purity and gentleness, and incredible choreogrphy, drove home to all the source of the mothelode of soul. They shocked the audience into silence, and then wild applause.

VHS : Sweet Smell of Success
I always sort of put off seeing this even though I've heard good things about it. I think it was because Tony Curtis is in it and the only thing I've ever seen him do were really bad introductions to some Alfred Hitchcock DVDs. In those introductions, Curtis fumbled his lines (which were often filled with errors) and so I assumed he was the worst actor in the world. I should kick myself.

This movie is not only one of the best "noir" films I've seen but one of the best movies I've ever seen PERIOD.

It's included in the noir category despite it not being a crime drama at all. The reason for this is it's shadow-filled cinematography and its theme of corruption. According to this movie, human beings are bleak, cold-hearted creatures.

It's about a Broadway columnist (played ... Read More

How can you hate this DVD? Its the best. They did not make this stuff up it came from the comic strips mostly in the 1990s. I also love Charlie Brown Christmas Tales, that was good. I'm glad I got this.

VHS : Teacher's Pet
Directed by George Seaton (Miracle on 34th Street), this coyly titled 1958 romantic comedy has more on its mind than mistaken identities and the May-December relationship at its core. Running a bit too long at 120 minutes, it's actually an intriguing look at the shifting journalism ethos of the late 1950's when hardcore, Front Page-style newspapermen were begrudgingly making way for reporters with college degrees. It should come as no surprise that Clark Gable represents the former as Jim Gannon, the no-nonsense editor of the fictitious New York Evening Chronicle, at odds with journalism teacher Erica Kane played with sophisticated élan by Doris Day, who was just embarking on her most fruitful period as an actress with her near-classic pairings with Rock Hudson soon to follow.

VHS : Geronimo
This is the story of Geronimo beginning with his younger years. The true story of Geronimo will never be fully told because of the wide variety of myths, army documents, and Apache oral history. However this film held much accuracy.
It begins with Goyaa³é in his youth as you meet his mother, sister, and best friend. After a brutal attack by the Mexican army Goyaa³é changes from a naive hunter into Geronimo; a daring Apache warrior that must fight to save his hunted tribe.
There is much brutality in this movie but I still recommend it to anyone desiring to know more about Geronimo's epic saga. He is hero to some, enemy to many but from all that he has endured one understands why his tactics were so brutal. Other movies tend to focus on Geronimo during his years of war but this movie is more in depth explaining what ... Read More

VHS : Mister Roberts
This movie is always on the top of my list. If you are a fan of the military classics, this is a must-have for your collection. Henry Fonda played this role in the play before the movie was made, so, his portrayal of Mr. Roberts is flawless.

The story is both heart-wrenching & hilarious at the same time. I, personally, cannot get enough of the crew posted on "The Bucket".
