"The English Patient" is a curate's egg among the Academy Awards. It's an artistically beautiful, sensual film though at times it's slow and bogs down. It has a talented ensemble cast, and lush settings in the North African desert and the Tuscan countryside.

Released in '97 the exotic, sensual and visually alluring `Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love' is an intoxicating story detailing the intense, complex intermingling sensations of romance, sexual attraction and obsession as played out in a royal family in 16th century India.

While I was remotely familiar with the contents of the classic Indian sex manual of the same name I began my viewing of the fillm `Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love' with no expectations as to how explicit this production might be. For all I knew it may have turned out to be nothing more than soft core porn of an exotic nature. Fortunately what unfolded was indeed a pleasant surprise. The Indian landscape, architecture and costumes, the mesmerizing soundtrack and the captivating storyline are everything an audience could ask for. ... Read More

VHS : My Own Country
It's a sad but yet beautiful story of love for humanity. Dr. Abraham Verghese came to America to practice medicine. His specialty is infectious disease. He came here in the '80s so of course he has to deal with AIDS. At that time you would not think it would be in Tennessee. He treated his patients with not just respect but with love. He truly cared about his patients. To the point his marriage was in jeopardy.

He was from India and Johnson City, Tennessee was where he ended up. He wasn't treated like a outsider, the town folks treated him with dignity, as one of their own. Dr. Verghese felt like it was his own country.

So many people think Southerners are a cruel backward people like in Deliverance. They're not. They may be behind the times but if you treat them respectfully, ... Read More

A rare case of where we may have enjoyed this movie more than the original. At the very least, it's a remake worth watching compared to most Hollywood re-runs.

VHS : Rollerball (2002)
The brave new world isn't about 'fake' blood and
stunt-men...Rollerball is a deadly contact sport
even simulated for the camera. Sort of a dirtier
version of world wrestling and it appears the
other reviewers don't have a stomach for
telling it like it is becoming.
Violence and sex in the media has gotten all out of hand
and this remake shows the level of escalation?
The Romans had bread, gladiatorial games and circuses,
we have TV. American social decline recorded in video for all
the generations to come to see? I think maybe vampire movies
and this one have a common ground of
blood drinking?
